HPF2 Beta 5 Version 6.05

Received several and all bombed within minutes on Vista Quad. New log line, i think.

[Edit: Actually, just see that the same line was reported with the 6.04 beta]

Re: HPF2 Beta 5 Version 6.05

I received and crunched 1 WU (BETA_ ly528_ 00013_ 24--) at High Priority. It ran for 7.34 hrs and about 1 hr ago was "Pending Validation". I did not then examine its Result Log. Now, like several of its peers, it has been declared "Too late". Its result log is very short, different and shorter than Sek's above, but also appears to show an error.
A64 X2, Win 2K, BOINC 6.2.19
Many peers on this WU returned after several minutes with Error status, but 1 other peer (so far) also crunched for 7.0 hrs, and is "Too late". A thought was that BOINC 6.2.19 is not detecting an error and aborting the WU, while the clients of the peers that errored after several minutes are behaving correctly. However, Sek uses 6.2.18, which I would expect to behave in the same way.

(Edit):
1. Second thoughts on why some WUs aborted after only a few minutes, (while some crunched onwards - the error symptoms reported in my Resuilt Log are different to those to Sek's above. Here's mine:
<core_client_version>6.2.19</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<stderr_txt>
####598121
called boinc_finish
</stderr_txt>
]]>
2.To posters below - I think the "Too Late" declarations are some kind of error artifact. Weird things are happening.
1 peer returned his WU in 15h52m and still has status "Pending":
BETA_ly528_00013_17-- | Pending Validation | 8/10/08 21:10:51 | 9/10/08 13:02:50 | 7.24 | 118.2 / 0.0
I returned mine after only 7h23m, and I was "Too Late":
BETA_ly528_00013_24-- | Too Late | 8/10/08 21:17:43 | 9/10/08 04:40:31 | 7.34 | 120.0 / 0.0
(Later declared Valid)

Re: HPF2 Beta 5 Version 6.05

Crunched one WU BETA_ ly528_ 00012_ 6-- but came back too late.

Since there were 14 WU all returned too late, 5 with errors and 5 No reply out of 31 WU sent out, and only 1 at pending at this time, maybe you would consider upgrading the Too late to Pending Validation

Sound more like a gaffe in the department of setting the "rush" parm. Blame it on me and many not getting 2 minutes per the detail result info sad

Suggestion: If there is the "fast/reliable client" rating of 21 hours, set the rock bottom deadline for all projects to this value i.e. whatever the outcome, a "no less than" rule.

Re: HPF2 Beta 5 Version 6.05

These lines are from my Results Status this morning:

BETA_ ly528_ 00008_ 28-- Gregson Too Late 10/9/08 06:37:08 10/9/08 12:18:10 5.67 89.8 / 0.0

BETA_ ly528_ 00033_ 2-- Garrideb Too Late 10/8/08 21:27:38 10/9/08 02:38:13 5.17 92.0 / 0.0

BETA_ ly528_ 00016_ 2-- Garrideb Valid 10/8/08 21:18:28 10/9/08 02:12:57 4.89 87.1 / 93.5

The first work unit shown ran for 5.67 hours. The interval between the Sent Time and the Return Time is 5.68 hours. How can it be "Too Late"? The second work unit show also completed in the mimimum possible time. These are both fast machines without any other work taking place during these hours.

Re: HPF2 Beta 5 Version 6.05

It can and it will if a parm was mis entered. In past credit was corrected manually i.e. points given, but more importantly which is why this is BETA, your result seem to have run properly so the programmers get maximum information out of your contribution.

thanks

Re: HPF2 Beta 5 Version 6.05

I guess the return time of BETA wu's is set so early, so that the BOINC client would understand to run it in high priority? This time I started to crunch two hours after the WU was supposed to be returned, so it was 8 hours late or so. Still, I have always gotten credits for these wu's and this time it was no exception. peace

Sorry, but I am not sure of what is going to happen with these Too Late WU. Are they going to get credit, not going to get credit, or going to get credit if further examination determines that they might get credit?
We don't deserve credit if the results are unusable, but if it is just a bad parameter that is generating the Too Late.............

I got credit for my "Too Late" WU, it was about 8 hours late.
