The only problem I have with your website is that it's so hard to find anything compared to other BOINC sites.
----------------------------------------Things like "Top Teams" and "Results Status" are hard to find. Many of the people that run other BOINC Projects stay away from WCG because the Website is so far off from the rest and it's hard to find anything. Another thing is the fact that your "point" system is not like the other BOINC projects and therefore not very good. I think you would get more people if you were to change your website to be more on the same format as the others. ![]() |

Other than the WCG points being soon all converted to only show as BOINC credits at the rate of 7 WCG points = 1 BOINC credit nothing much is expected to change. I sure hope the website is not going to get BOINCified, but that's a personal pref.

Given that WCG is the second largest player in the BOINC system, your concerns for our welfare may be misplaced. We crunch for the results not for the competition. While it is great to check and see where we are, there are other tools available and no need for our Techs to duplicate the effort of others. I believe that the 400,000+ WCG members, for the most part, understand why we do this.
Thanks for your concerns. There are plans for updates and changes that have been in the works for a while. Feel free to search the forums so that you can bring yourself up to speed with our reality. |

As others have said: being different is not a problem.
The Results Status page is painfully easy to find, being listed on the My Grid page. I am sorry you personally had trouble spotting it. Different is good. |

Things like "Top Teams" and "Results Status" are hard to find. Since we are here to help, here it goes: For the Results Status page: Click on "My Grid" under any WCG page's banner, then click on "Results Status" in the menu column on the left. For the top teams: Click on "Statistics" under any WCG page's banner, then click on "By Teams" in the menu column on the left. From the "By Teams" page displayed next, click on any of the nine choices offered in the "Team Statistics" section for sorting WCG teams on five different criteria. If necessary make sure that the "Select Language" feature is on "English". Good luck. 1st of all I want to make it clear that I am in this project to help find any cure that is out there to help save lives.
----------------------------------------However, others do (inculing me) look toward the point/credits doing the times that we have our races with other Teams. For the most part it's all we have to show for the time we put into any projects. I am sure that if one of our PC's found life on another rock in space that SETI would NOT put our name on the front page of a newspaper saying it was our computer that found it. Same with I would guess any other project would if one us found what that project was looking for. Most of us understand this. I do run WCG because I want to do my part in finding the cure for Aids, Cancer and all the other things that are killing us day in and day out. I will keep on helping unless after this you folks ban me from your project. Now that I know more about where to find things it will make it easier for me. Up until now I have gone to the BOINCstats website to get most of the info. One other problem I have is that for some reason this is the only project... make that website that I keep having to sign into each time. BTW I love the NEWSLETTERS but I don't seem to get them all the time. Are they monthly or bi-monthly? Last question... the picture on the ScreenSaver for the rice that looks like steps - where is that and what is it? ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by TrustedDragon at Oct 2, 2008 12:13:08 AM] |

I will keep on helping unless after this you folks ban me from your project. I don't know that WCG had ever banned anybody from crunching here. And for having a slight chance to be banned from this forum you would have to repeatedly and consciously violate the rules, which is not at all the case with your post. We understand and find normal that not everybody finds this website nice. Even us CAs and the official staff acknowledge that some parts of it (like the current level of the forum software) need improvement, and it is planned by the way. If you have found my answer slightly ironical you are right, it was, but merely to kid you a little and to show to possible other readers with the same problems as yours how simple it actually is, once you know where it is. Regarding the sign on question, if you check the box "Remember me" close to the sign on fields you should seldom have to sign on again. About BoincStats, it is a very useful site that most of us use regularly, especially now that all WCG production is done via Boinc. It provides much interesting information that this website will probably never add to its statistics section because the focus is more on launching projects and keeping them running well than on building an other big statistical system. Regarding Newsletters there are not many (enough) and sometimes they are caught by the anti-spam filters but you can find them behind "News and Media" from WCG's Home page. WCG's boss is conscious that there are not enough (only one this year) and seriously wants to improve on this topic. Again, you and any volunteer from SETI.USA are welcome here, and everybody would certainly love to see the daily contribution of your large team increase in WCG. Even if that makes competition more difficult! ![]() Cheers. Jean. |

Hi TrustedDragon,
----------------------------------------Last question... the picture on the ScreenSaver for the rice that looks like steps - where is that and what is it? The screen saver graphics are explained in the NRW Project FAQs: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_sh...RiceFaq.do?shortName=rice BTW I love the NEWSLETTERS but I don't seem to get them all the time. Are they monthly or bi-monthly? The newsletter is issued sporadically. They are all listed on the website at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/newsletter/viewNewsletterMain.do One other problem I have is that for some reason this is the only project... make that website that I keep having to sign into each time. Check 'Remember me'. Then you will only have to sign on manually when the server is running the statistics collection script - an annoying feature. Regarding the Rice screensaver question I needed a little more time to find the info. It's there:

I thank you folks for the info.
----------------------------------------I just wanted to tell you that I was reading on the BOINC Message Board and I am not the only one that likes your Newsletter! http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=2864 BTW: I am only a member of SETI.USA and anything I have posted here does not reflect the feelings of my TeamMates.
