"Thread master" utility

A friend and I installed this utility on our machines. He has dual processors, while I have one AMD. On both machines Thread master throttled down the CPU to 20%. I am wondering if anyone else had different numbers?

cool Re: "Thread master" utility

If you read the FAQ at http://bednorz.uni2.net/anyland/threadmaster/threadmaster.htm#Threadmaster you will see that the default limit on CPU utilization is 15 (meaning 15%). You have to use regedit to change it to something like 60 for 60%. You probably will want to use Motherboard Monitor to check your temperature at various levels of CPU utilization.

Re: "Thread master" utility

Does anyone know if ThreadMaster will work on a WinXP system?

The link above http://bednorz.uni2.net/anyland/threadmaster/threadmaster.htm#Threadmaster says that ThreadMaster Ver. 1.12 Build 182 is "A application based CPU Quota management tool for Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003".

Let's keep folding those proteins...

ThreadMaster does not work on Windows NT. It does work on Windows XP. There are quite a few posts about it on http://www.grid.org

Re: "Thread master" utility

Thanks, Lawrence. Got it. Although it does appear to slow everything down, not just one particular application.

Mother Board Monitor apparently doesn't support my motherboard (I couldn't find it on the installation menu). Odd, I thought, since it is a Compaq. But, no worries. I'll be having a friend install a new AMD processor & some custom heat sinks in 2 weeks. That way I can crunch at 100% capacity without having to think about it. laughing

ThreadMaster limits all processes to CPUThresholdPct but you can add appimagenameA n where the appimagenameA is our WCGrid_Rosetta.exe and n is a different percentage. Still, the easy way is just to define a maximum percentage for all threads. Look at the HP website to see if they have a temperature utility for your Compaq computer.
