Maximum CPU time exceeded

Hi,

I have had two (2) WU error on the above. Same machine, same project. Can anyone tell me if there is a seting I have to adjust to correct the problem?

Specifics:
C2D E6750 Not over clocked
WinXP Pro 32-bit SP3
BOINC Client: 5.10.45

WUs:
ly480_00024
lx880_00074

Error: (Same for Both)
<core_client_version>5.10.45</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[

]]>

Both received 13 of 15 required completions and both ran in excess of 2 days on my device.

Tried a forum search on the error with no luck. ("Maximum CPU time exceeded")

Re: Maximum CPU time exceeded

This is a long known and vary rare 'condition' where somehow the science gets into a loop without being able to break out and keeps running until the maximum processing time has been reached (about 6 times the original estimate). There's an FAQ in the Start Here forum as what to do when a member spots a job not making progress. "Almost" guaranteed the HPF2 job finishes properly on a restart from the last checkpoint.

It's regrettable it happens particular since no one in the WCG labs has been able to capture this nor anyone having been able to capture the specific condition that it happens. They always finish flawlessly at a second attempt. Dark matter I suppose ;>)

Re: Maximum CPU time exceeded

Most helpful information, this just happened to me as well, though I was able to catch it before it exceeded max time. :) Thank you, the WU seems to be continuing normally now. :)

Re: Maximum CPU time exceeded

Sekerob,

Thank you for the reply. I went thru a period a while back were the looping WUs were pretty common so I was checking for them daily. It's been so long since I've encountered any that I forgot all about it.

I guess I should have figured it out on my own.
