Hi,
When I select pause from BOINC's icon, it seems to only last for an hour or so, then it resumes. I want BOINC to be paused until I unpause it, no sooner. Is this possible without closing the application? Also, I've installed WCG on my Core 2 Duo Windows XP laptop. Will it be getting the most out of my CPU (while confined to 60%) on its default settings? |

The menu item is named "Snooze", and it does indeed only pause for an hour. The "Pause" button in the simple view does the same.
If you open BOINC Manager and choose "Suspend" from the activity menu in the advanced view, then BOINC will remain suspended until you resume it. The default settings will use both cores. You should see that two tasks are active. |

Will it be getting the most out of my CPU (while confined to 60%) on its default settings? No. To get the most out of your CPU you should use the "Maximum output" setting, BUT on a laptop that could lead to too much heat. If you want to try it do it only while you can watch how your laptop is reacting. The "Default setting" with only a 60 % setting is probably the most reasonable for a laptop. Cheers. Jean. |

Thanks for the info on pause versus suspend.
----------------------------------------I am aware that the 100% CPU setting would get more work done. However, I will stick to 60% since we are dealing with a laptop. I just wanted to make sure that the program was actually utilizing 60% of CPU capacity and not, say for instance, 60% of just one core. I do see two WCG processes in my task manager, so I guess it is working as intended. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 18, 2008 11:27:42 PM] |
