"Decommissioning" a WCG PC

Hello, all.

I just bought a new Athlon X2 Windows Vista PC, to replace an older Athlon XP one that has been BOINCing for WCG.

I will probably be powering off the old PC.

Do I need to do anything in my profiles, etc., for the old PC, to keep WCG from trying to keep sending work units to it?

I couldn't find anything about this in a search of these forums.

Thanks.

Re: "Decommissioning" a WCG PC

No Worries Goedel. Long as the old machine does not talk to the servers via BOINC, will WCG consider the device to have gone dormant. After 14 days of idle (silence) it will in fact be moved off the Active device list on your My Grid > Device Manager page. Only expanding the filter will make it visible again.

cheers

It is the PC that REQUESTS work, not the servers that push it.... smile

Re: "Decommissioning" a WCG PC

Hi goedel,
Just select Projects - WCG - No New Tasks in BOINC Manager. When the last task is finished, exit BOINC and uninstall. The server only responds to requests from the computer, it never initiates any communication.
