Re: Invalid results

What does the Results Status page say? Can you filter it for this device and paste the latest results here?

I am particularly interested whether all the WCG projects are affected. If you are exclusively running HCC at present, I suggest running this device with all projects for a while.

It's not looking too good at the moment sad

Some of the errors may be due to the cancer wu's I aborted in an effort to get work from other projects.

Re: Invalid results

Hello Jason1478963,
What do you see when you click on an Error unit on the Results Status page? How do they differ from an Invalid unit?

The way you get both Invalid and Error makes me suspect that I will not be able to diagnose anything.

sad

applause Re: Invalid results

Hi, it appears the Help Conquer Cancer units finish with no errors, but end up invalid, the Nutritious Rice units are coming back valid, and the Human Proteome Folding units refuse to run and error out, even causing a windows error. Here is from the results status, errored result:

I guess I'm gonna run memtest again and see if that picks up anything...
I ran Prime95 for a few hours again last night, no errors

Re: Invalid results

I did a little preliminary research. There are two major possibilities:

1. Security software is interfering. What security software do you use? Check the logs, and set exceptions for all the World Community Grid processes.

2. You have filesystem corruption. You should run a disk scan, and also reset the World Community Grid project. Do this on the Project tab in BOINC Manager. Resetting the project is probably a good idea no matter what the real problem is.

My money is on #1, because it appears that something is interfering with getting a debug trace, and the log basically says "an error occurred trying to report an error".

Re: Invalid results

Ok, so I ran chkdisk, defragged, reset the project, checked the power supply voltages, as the bios was reporting only 11.4 on the 12 Volt rail, but the multimeter reads 12.1 on both rails. I am not running any security software, not even windows firewall on it, as it is only a cruncher and not my main puter. Gonna try to get a couple Cancer wu's if they are back up, or Proteome Folding, and see what happens..... wink
Thanks

Re: Invalid results

Ok, status report: I think we're gaining on her, the wu's don't seem to run much better, but there is a lot more info in the errors in the results status. So much in fact, I don't think I can paste it all in here. The Nutritious Rice units run fine, and all seem valid, I got one valid, one error in Proteome Folding, some Cancer pending validation, one errored, and two out of two faah errored out. I'll try to paste what I can in here from a conquer cancer wu:

Re: Invalid results

You were so right, it is a long and winding road, but I believe I'm over the hump and on the down hill side. Here is the path I followed, after the last post, I read and read and decided to roll back my boinc install to 5.10.45, with no change in results. I then disabled new work units, reset the project, then uninstalled boinc completely, and reinstalled boinc. That seemed worse than before, all kinds of errors and invalids. Next I found a new bios revision, so flashed the bios, updated all the drivers I could find. That didn't help either, so I repeated the process of uninstall, reinstall boinc with all the new drivers, but still no better. Next I decided possibly my windows install was corrupt, to varify that I partitioned my drive, installed Ubuntu 8.0.4 and installed boinc/linux. Oh boy, a fresh install, it has to work now, but nope, invalid, invalid and nothing but invalid. Ok, that tells me it has to be a hardware issue now. I had already ran Prime95 and Memtest repeatedly with no errors, so decided to start swapping out hardware. I am running four 512Mb sticks of ram, so I pulled out one pair, reran Memtest in case I had a bad one remaining. No errors showed up. I ran 6 wu's in Ubuntu, sent them in, and while waiting for them to be validated, I replaced the cpu, and started on more wu's. Bingo!! All the wu's returned valids! Hmm. replaced the old cpu, ran more wu's but in WinXP this time, and all are returning valids. I'm now in the process of running out those HCC wu's so I can try some from other projects, but I am confident that faulty memory was causing all the trouble. I have no idea why it never showed up in Prime95 or Memtest though. So I hope my road levels off for a while now, and maybe along the way my experience can help somebody else. I may post again after running a few Human Proteome Folding wu's, because they were also giving me lots of trouble, but for now, so far so good. smile
Thanks Again for all the help. applause
