Computation error on HPF2 job

Hello,

My last HPF2-job stopped with a computing error during processing and not at the end. I only pressed the Shift-key to wake up the screenpowermode. Coincidence?

An extended log from this error the techs can find in the ResultErrorLog with result-ID: 114154274.
I'm running Vista on a Quad and Boinc client version 6.2.16 for windows_x86_64.

Could be something wrong with this WU or with my computer?

Regards.

Re: Computation error on HPF2 job

Hello Crystal Pellet,
We suspect that a number of errors reported on laptops are being caused by power mode and screen device drivers. This is just a suspicion on our part. It might help if you describe your system in some detail. I make no promises about immediate fixes, but information of this sort might eventually help us track down the problem.

Re: Computation error on HPF2 job

Hi Lawrence,

It was not happening on a laptop but a normal desktop. I use only the power energy saving for the screen. So no standby or hibernating.
When there is no human interactivity, the output to the screen stops after 5 minutes, the screen says 'No Signal' and powered off then.
To wake up the screen output, I usually press the Left-Shift button. I did so this time and saw on my taskbar that the BoincView-icon was red. I opened BoincView (V. 1.4.2) and could just see for one second the red line of this task with a status 'Computation error' before it finished and uploaded. So far in more detail what happened.

Some other system details:
CPU AM2+AMD Phenom X4 9350e (4 threads 2 GHz)
MB Asus AM2+ M3A78-EHM
256MB Graphics only from motherboard (I was already thinking this could sometimes cause the problem)
2048MB RAM
Prefs: 90% CPU allowed when system idle. When in use about 900MB free.
I use the BIOS built-in opportunity to overclock the FSB with 8%.
When I used the max. possibility of 10% my feeling was, that the system was slightly unstable then.
I have also running ABC@Home on that PC and in hundreds and hundreds of tasks never an erroneous result.

If you need more specific information, feel free and ask.

Re: Computation error on HPF2 job

hi again,

from the other thread

"An extended log from this error you can find in the ResultErrorLog with result-ID: 114154274"

Can you please post the actual log content or the link to the log. Suspiciously and speculated I think you have a security or system problem v.v. "Output File xxxxx absent". It's covered in several threads amongst:

Re: Computation error on HPF2 job

Hello Sekerob,

When it is my computers fault, there is no real problem, but perhaps there is a bug in the WCG/BOINC and/or Science software, so there he goes:

Re: Computation error on HPF2 job

Hi Chrystal Pellet,

Just as i thought. The link i provided leads to an FAQ on that error

exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005)

Bad one to diagnose, but it's local for sure.

Re: Computation error on HPF2 job

Hello Sekerob,

Thanks for the links. On my PC this error is a rather rare phenomenon until now. So I think it's not the hardware.
Perhaps a coincidence of software state, 8% overclocking and the CPU has to reactivate the graphics output.
I'll get an eye on it and I keep on crunching ... already waiting for Phase2 of HCMD.

Thanks again.

Re: Computation error on HPF2 job

Well, the quick ones are:

1. Set clock back to factory.
5. Reset WCG Project in BOINCMgr (will loose any work in progress).

The various on drivers. Watched the graphics?

Re: Computation error on HPF2 job

Do not try to change everything at once to find the cause of a problem and a bug you cannot reproduce is not a bug cool .

So first of all I stopped the Windows Screen Power Management and I will use the HIPM confused (Human Interface Power Management). Because it not happened on a laptop this is possible.
After running out of WCG tasks (within approx. 10 hours) and acknowledging the results, I will reset the WCG project for a clean start and give all four threads a mixture of WCG projects.

Don't forget ZERO errors on 530 ABC WU's under the same conditions.

Re: Computation error on HPF2 job

Given that 37 million results were completed for HPF2, over 2 years old and mature and the particular error, guess what I believe wink

Not wanting to puh puh, but ABC is sort of light stuff. HPF2 makes my quad run quite warm, so it runs 80% this extended summer.... never fails here.
