Computation Appears to Stop Every 30 Min???[resolved]

Hello,

I'm new to BOINC, joining from UD, and there's something I don't understand, tried the forums and FAQ, so apologies if this is a basic question biggrin

Looking at the message tab in the BOINC mgr, I see lines like these:

31/08/2008 11:42:17||Resuming computation
31/08/2008 12:11:37||Suspending computation
31/08/2008 15:31:16||Resuming computation
31/08/2008 17:32:23||Resuming computation
31/08/2008 18:07:12||Suspending computation
31/08/2008 18:08:19||Resuming computation
31/08/2008 18:35:16||Suspending computation
31/08/2008 18:35:58||Resuming computation
31/08/2008 19:44:09||Suspending computation
31/08/2008 20:01:33||Resuming computation

Why is the computation stopping??? I've looked carefully at the options and haven't consciously asked for it to stop 30 mn after it started, especially when the PC's idle?

Comments and explanations gratefully received, ALLP

Re: Computation Appears to Stop Every 30 Min???

Something is off. Firstly, BOINC should always give a reason when it suspends automatically. Second, it resumed twice in a row (although maybe there is a gap from when you copied it).

So. Why is it suspending? There are many possible reasons. Insufficient memory, suspending when the computer is in use, suspending when the computer *isn't* in use - it gets complicated.

To help us get to the root of the problem, please will you check your active preferences? Copy the contents of global_prefs.xml, and (if it exists) global_prefs_override.xml. You will find both in the BOINC folder.

Thank you.

Well, it's not exactly 30 minutes is the first that strikes me, thus it could be user activity driven. Are you on the Power Savings preset profile?

<max_bytes_sec_down>0.000000</max_bytes_sec_down>
<cpu_usage_limit>90.000000</cpu_usage_limit>
</global_preferences>

Looking at this, I wonder if this line doesn't cause the problem:
<suspend_if_no_recent_input>20.0</suspend_if_no_recent_input>

Finally, I'm running BOINC on 4 different PCs (3 desktops and 1 laptop) and the problem is the same everywhere. Also worth mentioning I'm running the French version of the agent?

Thanks for your help, ALLP

Re: Computation Appears to Stop Every 30 Min???

Correct. You must have chosen the power saving profile. Go to your device profile: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...iguration.do?name=Default and choose "maximum output" (or standard, if you prefer). Save the settings.

For best results, you should also remove the override file by opening BOINC Manager and opening the preferences dialog. Clear the override, and use the web settings instead.
