Power Mananagement Issues

I've been running two computers 24/7, but I've been getting too many results that are either not giving me credit (inconclusive) or not giving me sufficient credit for the CPU time of my computers. So, I'm sick of paying hard-earned cash for the power required to keep these things going 24/7 and not getting sufficient credit. So, I'm going to turn on the power management features and just run the program when in use.

The problem is that when I turn the power management feature on in my Fujitsu Laptop running Vista, I get 'error' results.

How do I fix this?

I thought I would post and see if there was an easy fix before just uninstalling the program.

Re: Power Mananagement Issues

For the "inconclusive" I have already answered you in your other thread, in short "do not worry, your efforts are not wasted".
For the power management on laptops part I will leave it to my "colleagues" with laptops. I am still an adept of bigger boxes on the floor**, and on the faster one I have inhibited that feature from the BIOS! smile

** It's also that I do not really need a laptop nowadays and that I prefer conventional keyboards. smile

Cheers. Jean.

Hmmmm ... well, from the lack of responses, I am assuming that there is no fix for this issue.

Unfortunate, that.

I've selected "No New Tasks". When the downloaded tasks are complete, I'll delete the software since it does not seem to be working properly.

If you think credit is more important than contributing, there is nothing we can do for you.

Remember, an inconclusive result is not an error.

Re: Power Mananagement Issues

To expand on what has been said already, an Inconclusive result will eventually change to either a Valid or an Invalid result. There's only a problem if a lot are changing to Invalid.

To get help on the power management setup there's a couple of big questions that need to be answered:

1. What error? You can get the message by going to the My Grid -> Result Status page and clicking the Error link. The BOINC message log will also be needed to help diagnose the problem.

2. What power management feature? Whether your laptop is going into standby or hibernating or doing some other third thing is important information. Otherwise the stock reply will be to update the power management software. smile

Good luck.

Thanks. That comment goes a long way in understanding the culture of the WCG 'community advisors'. Thank you for 'advising' so wisely. It completely verifies my thought of what my decision should be.

Re: Power Mananagement Issues

You have been a member for 3 years and completed many results in that time. That should lead us to believe of your commitment. If you need to leave, then we will miss your help, but we ask that you just leave quietly. Don't disrespect our involvement and don't condemn me for not being able to answer your questions. Last I looked, 'I don't know' is still a valid answer.

I had a client years ago that wanted me to support every Windows software program for 150 staff computers. I turned him down because he wouldn't accept 'I don't know' as a reasonable considered answer.
