angry BOINC on HP with Vista

I installed the grid with BOINC on a brand new HP desktop today, but BOINC refuses to give me some work because my password is too short! It is the same passport (5 characters) I've been using since 2004.

What can I do ? crying

Paul

Re: BOINC on HP with Vista

Maybe it is the only circumstance where WCG (or Boinc) is trying to enforce the current standard (minimum six characters).

The simplest is to comply: from the website go to your My Grid page and click on Sign In Manager in the leftmost column. Then type your new password and confirm it in the confirmation box... and remember that you have a new password for all WCG activities. smile

Cheers. Jean.

Paul, you can always change your password back once you have attached. However, a 5 character password isn't very secure. Ideally, you should have at least 8 - and avoid real words or names.

Re: BOINC on HP with Vista

Good Morning all and the WCG tech department made it so a change of password enforces the minimum of 6 for this website too. Just updated the FAQ to reflect that we don't have Grid Agents, just 1 Client.

Many thanks for the tip. I changed my password, put my new PC at work, and there are now some 10 tasks waiting for validation.
