A friend of mine is trying to set up a new installation of WCG BOINC (version 5.10.45) on a computer that previously had WGC BOINC installed. The problem is that the previous user keeps showing up.
He uninstalled BOINC, ran a registery cleaner (CCleaner), and manually deleted the BOINC folder. He then signed onto WCG and downloaded BOINC. When BOINC has finished the installation, the user is still the old user, not the one he wants. I have sucessfully used those same steps to change the WGC user. Are we missing a step somewhere? |

Hello marti_TD,
I think somebody once said that uninstalling BOINC does not delete the BOINC directory, which has some files left in it. Uninstall, delete BOINC directory, then reinstall. No need to worry about the registry. Lawrence |

The quickest is just opening up the BOINCmgr. Dont' know if you are in the Simple or Advanced View, http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/The_BOINC_Manager
----------------------------------------but (right) click the WCG icon in former for a pop up menu or go to Projects tab in latter and detach from WCG. Via the Add a Project button or the Tools menu, Add a Project, find WCG, select it and enter the desired member and password to which you wish to register the client. Your friend might want log out from the website and clear the cache and cookies. The installer is trained to find bits and pieces when doing the initial download and install.

Detach and then attach solved the problem. Thanks for the replies to this thread.

He then signed onto WCG and downloaded BOINC. For people who would like to do the same thing (since for you it's OK now) I would rather recommend "make sure you sign out (top right corner of any WCG screen) before downloading". After what Lawrence said I cannot be sure that signing out would be enough, but being signed in probably makes the system believe that it is just a re-install. Cheers. Jean. |

I had read your post Sek, but for me (maybe I am wrong) "you might want" looks more like a possible option than "make sure". And when this option is accompanied with "extreme" measures like clearing the cache and the cookies I don't find it very attractive.
