From the FAH Wiki:
Note: To get a FAH client to run on multi cpu machine, You must install as many FAH clients to separate directories as there are processors in Your machine and You may need to configure Your clients to use different Machine IDs (look to "Configuring the client").
Alright, so I have a brand new computer with a AMD 6000+ dual core CPU and thought I would start to contribute to FAH in earnest now, but I find this kind of offputting. Is that really necessary? I also don't know about this, from the same page:
Only bad thing is that there is no easy (as easy as pressing [CRTL+C]) way to stop this client anymore. As FAH will start up several processes then there is nothing else to do than hunt down and kill these processes. To make our life a little easier FAH client will die if the running cores die (should be a rule but not always...):
So let's assume that I actually manage to set up and configure two separate FAH clients. How do I 'hunt down and kill' all of those processes for the separate cleints? Specifically, without losing any of the work the clients have done but not uploaded yet up to that point? Bonus question: I installed the BOINC manager version 5.10.45 via the Ubuntu package manager. Is that still good enough or should I manually doanload and install the manager from your site instead? |

Sorry about the URLs and quotes, I have forgotten how they work on this board.

type within the [] in small or use the buttons above the writing area.
----------------------------------------AND i think you are at entirely the wrong project forum to discuss Folding@Home (fah) solutions, probably meaning you were looking for FightAIDS@Home or FA@H or FAAH for short. It's a WCG sub project chosen in the My Grid > My Project page or the My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profile. Software automatically downloaded and installed. BOINC takes by default as many cores as there are in the computer, automatically up to 16 cores. In the next version it will be a % of cores, which means that 100% on a 32 core will use 32 cores.

Sorry about being a pest, but which exactly is the correct FAH forum to ask queations in?
All I can find for download is the same Boinc manager I already have installed, and it keeps telling me that it isn't connceted to a Boinc client. |

Ralf, do you want FightAIDS@Home here at WCG or FAH of Stanford? Latter makes no use of BOINC, with the former we can help you to get going.

Here at WCG, please, without BOINC.

Ralf,
You can only use BOINC if you wish to help out here at WCG. BOINC is the software that is used to run all of the sub-projects such as FAAH (Fight Aids At Home). To answer the wuestion about cores, the BOINC software knows about cores and will run two different tasks - one on each core. As Sekerob said, if you need some help getting it all set up, please let us know what operating system you are using and what problems/issues you are having. |

Sorry pal, but the only way to get WCG running is getting BOINC to run properly. BOINC is the wrapper, the framework so to speak.
----------------------------------------From what I remember of FAH, not easy to run, but that is a several years old opinion. Now, where is our Linux specialist. BOINCmgr not connecting to the Core Client (the daemon as some refer to) could mean it did not launch.
