Long Running Work Units

Is there a change to the size of all workunits? Is there a maximum CPU count for a work unit?

I have a AMD 9500 that has been currently crunching 4 work units for FightAids for 45 hours and it still has 20 hours to go? I know they introduced some long units but this seems really long.

I also notice on my Intel Q9450, a pretty fast machine, I have a bunch of NuRice work units that show 46 hours, some DiscoveringDen at 25 hours and some Help Conquer Cancer at 22 hours. I have never seen units that long on this machine before.

I have a dozen machines so I am willing to do the work, but I would like to know I am going to be able to complete all of these long running work units and get fair credit for them.

I did proceess one 41 hour unit and got 616 points on a AMD 9850 which seems ok, but now have have a bunch of very long units, on a numbr of machines.

Re: Long Running Work Units

Please see the Known Issues advisory . The batch is limited and one off due to a parm that was never used before (it never impacted the job sizing routine). As per the request in the other thread , please let them run.

Re: Long Running Work Units

I saw the advisory but that implied that it was only for FightAids. I now have received a bunch of NuRice that are over 46 hours. The problem seems to be more exensive then that. Also the advisory implies it is limited and yet I am getting more and more long running units. I also got my first failure on a computation error after 40 hours of work. If I get more of these, I am going to be canceling A LOT of units, and that will not be helping the projects. There was also a post that work units automatically get canceled after 58 hours. Does anyone know if that is true?

Re: Long Running Work Units

Just before your post someone reported his concern on RICE.

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=21504
They will run 8 hours, no longer. BOINC is confused since them mis estimate on the long FA@H jobs. It will take a few days to normalize.

Re: Long Running Work Units

NRW units are still 8 hours.

The large work units just threw off the time estimation. Don't worry: the rice units will still finish in 8 hours, and your estimates will readjust quickly.

Work units do have a built in time limit, but that limit varies from work unit to work unit (this limit is independent of the deadline). Big work units should have a high limit. It is fairly rare for the limit to be hit when there is no other problem, but the huge FightAIDS@Home work units seem to have sometimes hit the limit due to the incorrect size estimate they were given.
