Re: Setting resource share

biggrin
applause It's true that the substantive stuff is what it's all about, ultimately. Yet I'm also glad that making the project "writable" is on the to-do list, since it should increase ease-of-participation a bit.

I'm really grateful for the work IBM is doing for human benefit, and for the opportunity to participate.

Re: Setting resource share

14Tb is a lot of disk space, you can get it for less than $2500.
External HDD

Of course you'll need to back it up....etc....etc.

Re: Setting resource share

Hi petehardy,
The DS3200 price varies by a factor of 4 depending on built-in redundancy: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/storage/disk/ds3000/ds3200/index.html

Making good use of mass storage usually requires the sort of software and management techniques that PC users are unfamiliar with. At one time, hardware costs predominated and you simply added as many programmers as you wanted. They would still be cheaper than the computer. Now it is the software and people who set it up that constitute the main cost. The real value being donated is barely touched on on the article.

Re: Setting resource share

IBM is just amazing in its support for WCG and the projects we are working on. The world is a better place for their help. Now if we could only get the world's oil companies to also make an equivalent donation to mankind (maybe they have are are keeping it under wraps?).

Re: Setting resource share

Many corporations, companies and colleges donate their idle cycles to WCG through the partner program, not big oil directly afaik. Spread the word and point people you know to this facility that goes with assisted roll out.
