Failed download stopping all work from being done.

Hi all,

I have a Q6600 with windows XP.

I checked my BOINC client this morning and found no work being run. There is only one task in my list faah4171_LpvA_Npl3_wH_xmd04140_00_LpvA_Npl3_wH which is not running.

I have the following in my message log,

28/07/2008 07:22:14|World Community Grid|[file_xfer] Started download of file faah4171_LpvA_Npl3_wH_xmd04140_00_LpvA_Npl3_wH.pdbqt

But no other work is coming to my machine, I usually have 4 tasks executing at once.

I have tried aborting the task, and resetting my user, I have also tried removing FAAH project from my list of projects and then resetting. It still picks up the same unit of work which is then failing download and stopping my whole machine.

Anyone any ideas?

Re: Failed download stopping all work from being done.

I wonder if this is anything to do with the known problem with FAAH discussed here .

If you had a large number of FAAH queued, it could be possible that BOINC is trying to download the files when they have actually been removed from the server.

Are the files actually in your BOINC directory (normally C:\program files\boinc\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org ? If so, it maybe worth stopping BOINC and deleting one of the files that is erroring and then restarting and see what happens.

If not, I would probably do the usual checks and see if you have made any changes to your machine (firewall rules, new programs that could block things etc). I am sure you have done this already but always best to check :)

Re: Failed download stopping all work from being done.

Thanks for the reply,

I have checked all firewall etc.. I don't run with one.. not a software one anyway.

Plus when I reset it does contact the server, then tries to download the same work unit as I have previously aborted / deleted.

I have tried deleting all files from within the ...\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org directory and it just recreates them when it tries to download the failing item.

I'm a bit stuck as to what to try next.

Additional, it seems that the work unit has several failed parts to it.

Hope the link works.

Re: Failed download stopping all work from being done.

Hi Rigga,

I presume the one job in progress has now finished.

first, try a system boot

second, if reset does not work, do a project detach (projects tab, selecting WCG first and operating the left margin Detach button) and re-attach via the tools menu "attach to project". Select WCG from the drop down list and enter member name / password.

That will loose the job that fails to download properly, as detaching tells the server to cancel all queued work for that client.

If it persists, post us the start up log so we get a better system picture of what we're dealing with.

PS, we cant see quorum detail from links, only the error log of your work unit if you post the link. Copy / Paste the set here.

Re: Failed download stopping all work from being done.

Thanks, will try your suggestions when I get home tonight.

Hopefully that will sort out that dodgy work unit. Will let you all know.

Shame i'll lose today's work on my home computer. Ah well! :)

Re: Failed download stopping all work from being done.

BTW, did you try aborting the download in the Transfer tab too?

Re: Failed download stopping all work from being done.

Sekerob, yes I pretty much tried to abort everything. nothing worked.

I have just detached myself, and rettached and this seems to have cured the stuck download.

Thanks for your help.
