I've been running boinc since it was released for wcg. Just recently it started doing something odd. The screen saver activates while I am working. I could be typing an email or posting something (its just occured while typing this line).
Its not the system screen saver kicking in as I don't have boinc selected as my screen saver. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the agent without any luck. Normally it runs continuously in the systray. The only way I've found of stopping this behaviour is to shut down the agent completely. Anyone know of a cure? I've searched the forums without any luck. |

Odd, is it the screensaver full screen, or the graphics frame as were you operating the button in the BOINC manager?
----------------------------------------What OS is this and is a process called boinctray.exe running? [Added: And of course what BOINC version?]

I'm running winxpsp2, the screen saver is fullscreen.
I don't have a process called boinctray but do have boincmgr with a subprocess of boinc.exe and it has two subprocesses called wcg_<something or other>.exe There is another copy of boincmgr.exe executing with no sub processes. I also have rundll32.exe with a child process of boinc.scr .. which I've just killed. |

And it just kicked in again while typing something. boinc.scr was not running anywhere and has not been restarted after I previously killed it.

Sounds with 2 BOINCmgrs running you got preference conflicts. Check to make sure only 1 is launched. To restore normality, go to advanced menu, preferences and hit the clear button, so only your website device profile prefs are in effect.
----------------------------------------boinctray.exe is needed for Vista on 5.10 as it is responsible for keyboard/mouse detection. Got BOINC 6 developer version running and on XP it is required to run now also, so what BOINC version are you on (help menu, about)?

I'm running 5.10.45. In startup it seems it was starting two copies for some reason and I hadn't noticed - some hangover from a mistake in one of the upgrades in boinc I'd guess.
The first copy had sub processes, the second, nothing so possibly it was provoking this problem. |

The Startup folder exists for the "Allusers" and the individual user accounts, so it can happen that multiple entries are created for same program. Cause depends if you switched between BOINC Single user or Shared User install, not sure how that happened, but removing the duplicate by hand is the quickest road to salvation.
