Hi, I'm running the Humane Proteome Folding project with my BOINC client. But when it's running for a few minutes, I find myself unable to play certain video games (Psychonauts and Portal for the record, but I don't think that matters) and I get the message "unable to create 3D Device". I also get trouble playing videos with VLC media player (no video showing). When I disable the client, everything works as it should.
Is this because of the graphics used in the WCG screensaver? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. My apologies if this has been brought up already. I didn't find anything using the search function. |

Hi,
----------------------------------------Think we've had a report of that quite some time ago and will look if the discussion is retrievable. Are you using the BOINC screensaver? If you are not worried about the science graphics, try with an uninstall and re-install of the WCG BOINC 5.10.45 version client. That effectively disables the science graphics (and the screensaver). That one you can set to for instance blank (with or without password function). How this is going to work in version 6 I don't know. Thought that as long as you have not viewed the graphics and have not set the BOINC screensaver, nothing would get loaded and occupy any video resources. Let us know. ciao

okay, are the drivers up to snuff? What video card brand and driver version are you on and what OS? How much display ram is allocated?
