I have 13 computers connected, all on the same network. 12 are working fine but this morning one of the computers does not seem to be uploading or downloading. This computer has been working fine for months. W2K BOINC 5.10.45.

Have you tried the two main magical actions:
----------------------------------------1. Stopping/restarting Boinc 2. Rebooting the system If yes and still unsuccessful, can you access internet from this particular machine without any unusual problem? Has there been any recent software update (system, security software) on this machine. More questions and/or advice eventually after you answered this first set... Cheers. Jean. |

The only change I did make yesterday was to change in My Projects to Participate in all Projects instead of just Help Conquer Cancer, Human Proeteme, Nutricionous Rice. I have just started receving work from Discovering Denque and fighting aids. This does not seem to have impacted othher computers and I have not processed any work from them yet as I usually que up three days of work.

It seems like I fixed the problem although I hope it does not happend again. The three units that have been stuck in uploading showed up in the transfer tab. I have never seen anythink in this tab. I tried a "retry" for each of the thre units stuck in uploading. They disapeared from the transfer tab and changed from uploading to ready to report in the tasks tab. I then went to the prject tab and selected update. They then seemed to upload ok, although it is not clear if I am downloading yet.
----------------------------------------Not sure why this started happing on one computer. I will have to monitor it. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I am puzzled. You are not leaving much room for fancy guesses: detailed message log, precise answers to questions...
---------------------------------------- Strictly speaking the error messages "Temporary failed download... system connect" are related to connection problems between your client and the data servers. But you say your other PCs have no problem, there is no data server problem reported in WCG, either by techs or by other members, and the problem lasts. Also this machine apparently has no problem receiving your project prefs from the host. You have even thought of pausing your firewall, which is fine. If there were encryption problems they should affect uploads only and there would be different messages. For the time being the only thing I see in your log which might still be wrong is the allowed disk usage (0.55 GB). Since you are running with three days of queue and that you allowed new projects to drop in your machine maybe you reached the limit. Normally that should have nothing to do with connection problems but since the upload and download failures happen right in the same second that could be one of those "collateral damages" that make the life of IT people so exciting! Could you please check the space used by your D:\Boinc directory (right click on the Boinc directory from "My Computer", then Properties). In the meantime maybe I (or another CA) will have one bright idea. Cheers. Jean. |

I tried a "retry" for each of the thre units stuck in uploading. They disapeared from the transfer tab and changed from uploading to ready to report in the tasks tab. Well, I had not seen your last message before posting my previous one. I thought of asking you to do it but I assumed (wrongly) that Boinc was doing the retry by itself when restarting. Also I have not often been successful with retries in the Transfer tab when I had transmission problems, until I restart Boinc. By the way if it is the download problem which caused the upload one that could explain that your specific retry on upload files was successful. When Boinc starts it initiates the uploads and the downloads at the same time if both are pending. So, all is fine if downloads are coming. If they are not, you might still check the total space used by Boinc, just in case... Cheers. Jean. |

I, too, have been getting these same issues on one of my units. System has been working for some time; disk, memory, availability, all have been working well. Restart of boinc agent doesn't fix; it will be some time before I can reboot the machine. All other machines on various architectures appear to be working fine.
This is an x86_64 OS; had to run 5.18.16 because we are using CentOS. We aren't using the gui, so that isn't the issue here. Can't get the image of the .gif in here, but essentially the same message, except instead of "system connect" I get "file not found". We can get info in and out just fine, internally and externally, per normal operations. Just an issue with boinc/wcg. Any more ideas? |

Hello krevels,
Has this CentOS Linux64 system ever worked successfully with BOINC? Are you having trouble with the SSL handshake? Which file is missing? Lawrence |

It has appeared to be working just fine, at least up until today, when I noticed that the number of CPU's computing boinc processes was dwindling. Sure enough, check the on-screen listing, and lots of generated messages as previously outlined.
I see "valid" results in the stats, so I think things were working fine. Nothing has been added to the system, nor have any updates taken place for some time. I had originally tried to install the latest agent, but was forced to go to an older version to get it to work. As it stands right now, I'm NOT computing any boinc processes, although I see the boinc agent pop up on the radar screen every so often, so at least it is trying. Kevin |
