Hi all-
I asked this question a while ago, and was given the answer 'we're workign on it.' Just wanted to check on its status: Having the boinc software running prevents the computer from going into standby, sleep or hibernate mode, despite the energy settings selected under the power control. For instance, I'd like my computer to standby after an hour of inactivity for both money saving and environmental reasons, but with boinc running it won't do this. Is there any way to fix this problem, or is it being discussed? |

Yes, there is a way.
Go to your device preferences (when My Grid is available, after the stats update) and select the power saving profile. Alternatively, click on custom and use the "Stop computing after X minutes of inactivity" option. |

[.....I'd like my computer to standby after an hour of inactivity ...]
----------------------------------------But of course, the high processor usage caused by BOINC is not inactivity - so the operating system behaves accordingly. I think they would have to put some sort of keystroke monitor into BOINC, or link to the screensaver event to do this. I think this is unllikely? I have started using standby mode recently when I know I am not going to use the PC for a while. I do this manually. It is no trouble to hit the standby button as I walk away. Resume is very rapid. BOINC seems completely happy - no errored workunits. |

Default for this function is 20 minutes of mouse/keyboard inactivity.
----------------------------------------You could also set the network function and any not started work to suspend. When the current job(s) finish(es), BOINC goes idle and again the system standby kicks in. Transmit the completed work next day. Why do this: Checkpoints sometimes far apart could loose some progress when resuming from standby/hibernation.
