Alzheimer's and proteins?

Could someone check whether any proteins mentioned in the web site below are included in the current database, and how many are planned to be added? Some news on this could help persuade stroke victims and those with Alzheimer's in the family to join the project.

Re: Alzheimer's and proteins?

Not sure about HPF2, but I know POEM@Home, Folding@Home, (and I believe Rosetta@Home also) all do some folding research with Alzheimers. Currently HPF2 is folding the following:

http://homepages.nyu.edu/~rb133/wcg/thread_2008_05_29.html

--plasmodium vivax recently sequenced genome which causes malaria, usually not deadly but truly awful disease (finished)

---Phytoplankton responsible for a large portion of the oxygen in our atmosphere and interesting for its impacts on climate change (current, nearing end)

--rice major food source for a large portion of the worlds population (not done)

--arabidopsis model organism for studying plants (not done)

--Trypanosoma cruzi causes Chagas disease in Central and South America (not done)

Re: Alzheimer's and proteins?

Hello robertmiles,
If you read the status report at http://homepages.nyu.edu/~rb133/wcg/thread_2008_05_29.html you will see that we are currently folding proteins from additional genomes. We have already folded the proteins that we could find in the human genome. Undoubtedly there are a number of human proteins that we have not folded, because we are still learning how to derive proteins from genomes.

Re: Alzheimer's and proteins?

Interestingly, but how illogical would it be anyhow, new research related to halting aging may have it's application with Alzheimer and Parkinson.
