huh ? still "in progress" but already finished 16 h ago

dddt0402g0420_ 100089_ 0--

is reportes to be finished on my PC some 16 hours ago. But in the result status it is still in progress.

any ideas ?

ah, and btw, I asked some 3 weeks ago how to get work load for 4 days on my machine...I switched it back to 1 day in the prefs but still my PC loads for 4 days work.....if you ask me, never seen a more complicated prfile/settings file then BOINC....I canceld and resettet my settings wth the result that 9 WUs got "no result". My PC decided to load again WUs for 4 days instead of one regardless what I do.

I switched the machines off until all WUs are timed out ( July 3rd) and see what this ridic. BOINC client will do then.

sorry to say that but WU load out handling could not be much complicater - and the best it that the pref settings are complete ignored on my machines.

trevorcolby00, BOINC does not respond well to frequent changes. Just leave it running, and the queue size will stabilize.

Also, make sure you don't have local preferences conflicting with the ones you set online. This is a common problem with BOINC.

If you need help, just copy the messages from the Messages tab, and we will be able to explain what is going on.

Is the status of task in the BOINC client on your PC given as something like "Ready to report"? (I forget if this is the exact wording) If the task is in this status on the PC client, then it is waiting to report back to the server that the job has been completed by your PC. Until that happens the status in the "Results Status" section of the WCG for your account will be "In Progress" for this task.

You can force the BOINC client to report back by going into the Advanced view in the client, going to the Projects tab, selecting "World Community Grid" and then pressing the "Update" button. This should force it to update the task status almost immediately instead of waiting for the next scheduled communication.

You don't say what version of the BOINC client you are using, but you should be using at least 5.10.45 with WCG. You can set the additional work buffer in this version of the client, Advanced view - then Advanced-Preferences-network usage tab, and this should override any settings you have in your global BOINC profile for the device and apply just for your computer. Once you have set this, give it a little time to sort itself out as Didactylos has said ...

Re: huh ? still "in progress" but already finished 16 h ago

hello folks,

thank you for your helpful answers !

The status was always like "reported" - 100% complete - but the website here said still in progress.

however, after another 12 hours, my BOINC client was "fixed" and the WU was on this website reported "valid". What ever that was, it is gone.

My PC still loaded more work the last night - but I fear that these WUs will never finish becasue of my upcoming H.264 encoding work.

Thanks Steve W for your ideas - but I already did that on 4th of June - butsadly it didnt worked out. I got plenty of "no result sent" but the client started again downloading masses of work....the version of BOINC was installed in May 2008 - I dont know what version I have, I assume it is quite fresh.

anyway, thanks for your help !

....!

Probably was "REady to Report.... and 100%" and it would still show as i "In Progress" on the Web page. If you want to get it to report, just select the Projects Tab, highlight WCG and select Update. This forces a Report. If you also wish to stop further downloads, just select "No new tasks" also on the Projects tab.... wink

trevorcolby00,
Since it has not been mentioned in this thread yet, I remind you that the size of the queue is the sum of your parameters in "Connect about every xx days" and "Additional work buffer yy days" of the Local Preferences. Could it be where your problem lies?

Cheers. Jean.

Re: huh ? still "in progress" but already finished 16 h ago

I have this problem again... this time with three WUs.....frustrating !

it is "Hochgeladen, Meldebereit" in the Client details list...which means, uploaded, ready to report or similar.

and the website reports "in progress".....

connect every XXX days .... is 0.3 - like it was when I installed the client and it is the same as on my mac - there are no probs with the mac, only this old M$ machine makes trouble all the time. work buffer is 1.0 days now I changed it in the client because the PC ignored the web site settings at all ( btw. : why this feature exists when it doenst work at all ?? ).

So, nothing is resolved - the trouble still exists and its getting worser.

any ideas ?

As we have said many times before, "Ready to report" is not an error.

Everything appears to be working fine.
