I think we have one million devices crunching, so adding up all those computing power what will WCG be ranked among the supercomputers in the world?

Would be interesting to see if anyone could really work that one out!

See the many previous discussions. Even a few weeks ago one came around:
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...0&submitbutton=Search Finger in the air currently 170-175 teraflops with peak days on Monday Tuesday adding back the still reporting UD agents. http://boincstats.com/stats/project_graph.php?pr=wcg It's measured by the amount of work reported and the cobblestones included in that work. Now go find 'BOINC cobblestone rating". Here's a hint: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Computation_credit Have a nice day guys and if you come up with a higher number, do share
WCG

Guys............. the largest supercomputer in the world will come online in august, thrashing computer blue gene by 3 times. its going to be called 'road runner'.
Roadrunner "will produce the largest supercomputer ever at 1.5 petaflops, three times faster than the current largest system," IBM chief engineer Donald Grice says in a video on Big Blue's Web site. Lol, WCG has a lot of catching up to do....... |

Pity the poor programmers. With 3 different CPU types to program to all work together in the same system, they are going to need Wile E. Coyote (Genius) to get their programs debugged if there is any complexity.

Yes, but how well will it run "Doom"? And does it come with "Spider Solitaire"?

BOINC altogether has about 1,15 petaflops so it would be slower than the new roadrunner.

I don't know what systems they use (probably something different for the GPUs, maybe for the Cell procs too - from the general purpose CPUs), but it is possible to use one high level language for all (I develop in Java so my apps run on most anything - although using GPUs is a fairly new process). I imagine each type of proc probably has their own team of developers using their own system of languages, APIs and tools. |
