Monitor burn-in and the BOINC screen saver

I've had the United devices platform since 2005 and it's been working exactly as I wanted it to, i.e. a screen saver with a moving graphic to avoid burn in.
I've recently changed to the BOINC agent. So for I've only seen the screen saver for the project "Nutritious Rice for the World", (ironically the only one I opted not to participate in). In the background there is a photo of some rice paddies, above this photos I can see a model of a molecule slowly turning and in the bottom of the screen there are two bars showing the progress and the logos of WCG and University of Washington. Since I'm still using an old monitor I'm starting to worry about burn-in of the "permanent", non-moving parts of the screen saver.

1) Are the screen savers of all the WCG projects in the BOINC platform modeled in this fashion?

2) Is there some way to change this and make it like the United Devices screen saver?

If I've understood the threads I've read correctly I could turn of the WCG screen saver and use one of Windows' own but I kind of like being able to follow the progress without having to risk burn-in in the monitor.

Re: Monitor burn-in and the BOINC screen saver

Wish it was an actual option, but if BOINC installed as a service, under 5.10.45 you'd get a bouncing BOINC logo with job progress info, no graphics.

Because of this potential burn-in given the little moving elements on the screensavers, they also have an option to blank the screen after X minutes. That can be configured via the regular desktop-screensaver setup option.

Sorry, and yes, you can configure same is with running UD to use a different screensaver.

Re: Monitor burn-in and the BOINC screen saver

What sort of monitor do you have? Unless it's ten years old, burn-in really isn't a risk. If you are still concerned, use the Windows screensaver options to blank the screen/power off your monitor after a couple of hours.

The image normally moves around the screen. If you have a very small monitor (low resolution), that might not happen.

The power option is best. You will save energy, as well as the screen.

Re: Monitor burn-in and the BOINC screen saver

The rice one on my hi-res (both desktop and laptop) opens full-screen as screensaver, only the protein circling and the little line graph and progress-bar. This is similar to the concern with the one with HCC, where only the spheres are refreshing periodically. If it the regular graph frame would come up and move around, no one would worry in the first place.
