waiting to contact project servers

what do I do? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.
I've added this site as a trusted site in my browser.
Now what?

All I see is a message that says "waiting to contact project servers".

Re: waiting to contact project servers

what do I do?

How about giving a bit more information about your system, like operating system, firewall used, BOINC version you installed and what messages, if any, you see in the Messages tab (or window in Simple view) in BOINC Manager?

You said you set this site as a trusted site in your browser... That's not really necessary as BOINC doesn't do anything through the browser.

You did attach to World Community Grid, didn't you? If not even that, open BOINC Manager. Now depending on if you use simple view or advanced view, follow the steps below:

Simple View
1. Click the Add Project button you see on the manager.

Advanced View:
1. Go to Tools->Attach to project

The rest is the same:
2. In the window that opens, click Next.
3. Choose World Community Grid from the list, by clicking on the words.
4. Click Next.
5. Fill in your username and password. Those are the same username and password that you use for this site.
6. Click Next.
7. Click Finish.

Make sure that BOINC is allowed through your firewall on port 80 and 443. Especially the latter is needed here for WCG.

Re: waiting to contact project servers

Hi Gail Angel,

This problem has once before been reported here in this thread:

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=17694

The solution, if it is the same, was simple and in the self-help department:
cjasen wrote:

I think I fixed it! biggrin

I went to the "Advanced View". Chose the Projects tab, highlighted the World Community Grid project, and then hit the Update button. It connected and downloaded a bunch of stuff, and I am now Discovering Dengue drugs even as I write this.

Thanks for the help!

Re: waiting to contact project servers

Hi, sbeams.

Do you use a proxy server? Do you use security software? Perhaps your security software blocked it. Did you click on a security popup without noticing what it was for?
