no download/upload

Hi,
for two days now, the wcg client of my boinc application is unable to download new packages (they are already in the list of packages to download) or upload the finished ones. I am not sure if this is one of the problems mentioned in the help section, because of this long time and because I have five other projects running well. I also rebootet the pc two times with zero effect.
It is running on 64bit Debian based Linux (the boinc packages are those from the repository) on a pc with an Athlon 4600 X2 dualcore and 3GB RAM. The internet connection is always up.
Would be nice if someone could help.

Re: no download/upload

Post a good portion of your message log. Rather strange for it suddenly to stop, so let us see the BOINC log for first assessment of the problem.

Debian and x64 brings the ca-bundle.crt file and system clock date issue to mind. That file could not have gone missing, lest there was a clean install,

BUT, please give us the log.

Re: no download/upload

Yup, as suspected, some changed on your system which affected the ca-bundle.crt:

Fr 23 Mai 2008 08:55:54 CEST|World Community Grid|Scheduler request failed: Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with known CA certificates

There are lots of posts around the forum on this topic and there is a wiki listing down some known fixes.

We really like to understand why this sudden change. Too often we get a report, we ask questions about changes, member does not answer half once the fix is found and nothing was learned for the community as a whole. So, what changes were there at all, anything? Security Software, Client Reinstall/Upgrade, Debian Upgrade, Firewall, Router?

thanks

Re: no download/upload

Oh, yes, I did a dist-upgrade. But I do this periodically, and there have never been any problems with other projects.
Well, I take a look at the wiki when I am back from work.

Little question besides: Is that just a problem with the boinc packages of the debian repos?

Yet thanks for helping

no download/upload [solved]

hi,
wcg is working again laughing . thanks sekerob.
I think the problem was the dist-upgrade. but may be not alone because a couple of days ago I read about an openssl-problem in debian. the major reason for my last dist-upgrade was to fix this. may have ended in those certificate problems. I will see after the next dist-upgrade wink .

however, if anybody has the same problem:
- go to the wiki (take the upper link).
- in the section for this problem is also this ca-bundle.crt for download
- if you used the boinc packages of the debian repo replace the old file in /var/lib/boinc-client/ (otherwise as written in the data directory of your boinc installation)
- restart boinc and everything works

Re: no download/upload

I reported this to the package maintainers. It may not be their fault, but distros have historically had a lot of problems related to ca-bundle.crt.

Re: no download/upload

I don't know if it has anything to do with the current problems but when I switched the quad from XP2 to Linux (Ubuntu 8.04) before leaving home Sunday night I have seen that there was a new certificate in the list of updates. At least it is not this new certificate which does not work since I see that my quad is returning WUs without trouble. But maybe the previous one is no longer fine in all situations?

Cheers. Jean.
