Re: why do I need a proxy defined when I have none?

OK, I did that.
I scanned registry for 127.0.0.1, for 8118 and for 127.0.0.1:8118
- I found some entries and removed them
- I installed Copernicus Desktop Search, created an index of all documents
- it found some entries in some programs I do not use anymore, but still, I deleted all entries whereever I found them
- closed BOINC
- deleted client_state.xml and client_state_prev.xml
- restart BOINC

same behaviour, proxy is back.
I can't understand that. It is virtually impossible...

Re: why do I need a proxy defined when I have none?

okay, last try then you need to find the antivirus antibot rootkit removers.

Set BOINC to not fetch work,

Flush all your work in queue.

Set BOINC to not network

Erase those 2 files again

visit the slots\0\ slots\1\ subdirs of BOINC and delete any content, but before look in the init_data.xml files if any are still there.

Disconnect computer from any network, remove any jump drives if any.

Boot

Start BOINC, but do not connect to any other computer

Tell us.

If it's long ago, you might consider a full clean system install ground up including disk format.... something is lurking and hearing 'gaming' and anti cheat service, something dark could be there.

As for disk search, the same can be achieved with the file explorer search function putting 8118 in the search file content field. It's slow.

Re: why do I need a proxy defined when I have none?

Hey sad

well. I did as you said, but still BOINC tries to connect to the project. Maybe because it has never been able to connect.
Thus no init_data.xml and no slots. I installed the latest version as the trigger was, when BOINC wasn't able to download new work while at work, everything works fine.

I don't know. But anyways, the proxy was back...

Guess I really have to reroll the machine crying

All the same, thanks both of you very much for your help and suggestions.

Best Regards
Fosca
