Missing account key

Hello,
I've tried everything I've found in this forum to get rid of the message:
"Invalid or missing account key. Visit this project's web site to get an account key."
- checked MyProfile for an account id
- removed/added the project several times
- re-installed BOINC
- renamed account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml

But the message still occurs. What else can I do ?

Re: Missing account key

Hi,

There were several asking about same yesterday here , so an FAQ was created in the Start Here forum: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/printpost?post=164717

If that does not work, I'm at loss, so please would you post the actual message sequence before and after that 'annoying' line.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Re: Missing account key

I found some more posts on the topic and propose following:

  • Detach WCG from BOINC
  • Exit BOINC
  • Navigate with file explorer to the BOINC Program / Data directory (should normally be listed in the boot up BOINC message log)
  • Delete all files that have worldcommunitygrid.org in the name like account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml (there are about 6)
  • Go to the projects subdir and delete the www.worldcommunitygrid.org sub dir
  • Start BOINC
  • Attach WCG to BOINC

Uninstalling does not remove all remnants of projects!

I'm not sure if the initial fail (wild guess) is because the installer interacts somehow with a web browser, whether one has to be signed in to WCG and whether the right web browser is set as the system default (your main web-browser might not be)

Dumb as it may sound, try booting too. We get the frequent "it's a miracle that happened".

    Re: Missing account key

No sorry, still doesn't work. I even cleaned my browser history crying
Only other thing I could think of now is to delete my current WCG registration and create a new one ....

    Any other options ?

    Re: Missing account key

There is a different way to force the situation and that is to use the boinccmd tool. Let me purge my brain and seek fresh code in the wiki http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/BoincCmd. It entails opening a DOS cmd window, navigating to the BOINC program dir and typing

    boinccmd --project_attach URL AccountKey

The account key for WCG is on the My Grid > My Profile for example

    BOINC Account Key: 0aa801caa57e5c375e123076e123e18f
    BOINC Project URL: www.worldcommunitygrid.org

(For hackers amongst the readers, the code was mangled :o)

    Re: Missing account key

That command adds the project to the list, but the message still occurs then.....

Strange thing is .... when I try that "--lookup_account command" it lists my account key correctly ....

Okay, don't go off creating a new account. It's time for the tech expert to look at this.

I found on an other project that the browser cookie indeed seems to hold that account key info too.... wonder what yours says?

This has been fixed. The next time your computer attempts to connect to the servers it will connect properly.

    We apologize for the troubles.
