I don't think it's supposed to work with way, but the last 4 computers I installed BOINC/WCG on...the first unit I received was Beta. Of the 60,000 previous units I downloaded, only 2 were Beta...weird.

Usually new devices are on default (short connection interval without additional buffer) and when you just happened to hook up right when WCG was sending out record numbers for 3 projects (8200 betas validated this weekend), you just could conclude that you were at the right place at the right time.

It's no secret that WCG is converting all the projects to be fit for the future BOINC 6. It has a more robust graphics frame that designed to prevent most crashing but also allows to run the screensaver and graphics when the member opted to install BOINC with the save(service) option. Work has started on converting HPF2 and HCC projects as well, so in the not too distant future more beta work will be coming around, BUT, Don't ask us when. The tech and programmers are always on stage in the 6 ball juggle act, with one hand tied behind their backs.

I have a number of machines running WCG. Would it be beneficial from a beta standpoint to put some test version 6.x on one or two of them?

Hi Steve,
----------------------------------------A few hands-on testers with an 6 Alpha/Beta is always very useful.... thou shalleth though be aware of the dire consequences .... loss of computing time, particular if not monitoring regularly, same rules for credit as regular work, no special privileges but the eternal gratitude for Beta testing. If really wanting to dig in, subscribe to the developer mailing list to be aware of the bugs that are identified in the client. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/email_lists.php thanks
