linux grid computing??

i hope this was not an already existing post i had alittle trouble navigating. I am a student at Chubb Tech in NJ and my teacher and would like to setup our 100+ 2.8ghz pentium 4s on a grid to load balance boinc, i hope i used those terms right. problem is we are not really sure how to do it... these machines usually dont have drives in them since we use assigned drives, but there still must be a way, i know linux has a solution... but i just dont know where to begin, we all know these bad boys would be great for WCG and for my fellow students to become familiar and it will give these old machines a reason to live! we have centOS and where thinking about using it for clustering... but i dont even know if that is what we want... i guess i really need direction... what is the best way to get these countless machines running boinc on a grid so we can monitor them as a school. please give me any information and i look forward to donating billions of CPU cycles to boinc!

Re: linux grid computing??

Hello helbuns,
Load-balancing? That is a computer science project that is well beyond anything that WCG is working on. BOINCView lets you manage a number of independent computers running Windows BOINC on a network. Here is something Google found searching for BOINCView and Linux: http://lunatics.kwsn.net/linux/repost-alternatives-to-boincview-on-linux.0.html

Sorry I cannot help.

Re: linux grid computing??

I suspect the computers do have local drives. Running BOINC entirely from a network drive (while possible) isn't really optimal.

For any large deployment, you can get help directly from the WCG technicians. Also, it is worth investigating the WCG Partner program.
