On the Berkeley down load page they recommend the 5.10.45 version boinc_ubuntu_5.10.45_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh
----------------------------------------for X86 linux installations. I could not install this version on my SuSe Linux 10.0 X86 32bit system and kept getting GLIBC_2.4 not found. I found some posts with the same error message for X86-64 Debian systems, and the recommendation was to use an older Linux version of BOINC. So I downloaded and installed the 5.8.16 version that also supports GUI and all worked fine. I would recommend that there needs to be addditional information on the berkeley download page indicating what each Linux version is compatible with. The referred to location above refers to GLIBC_2.2 NOT FOUND, granted this is sort of the same message, but the resolution of installing a newer version of LIBC is wrong, as the SuSe Linux 10.0 Desxtop 32bit version is already has GLIBC_2.4, but is is not named that way in the system just GLIBC. The script is wrong looking for GLIBC_2.4.

I don't think you are correct. BOINC requires a specific version of glibc. The fact that you say "it already has GLIBC_2.4 but it's not named that way" concerns me. How do you know what version it is?

KentS,
----------------------------------------Because of the many many Linux distro's, Berkeley only tests for the most common, Ubuntu, and names it's install packs accordingly. Effectively they gave up trying each and every Linux flavor. It became humanely impossible, but since there is a wiki, no one is being stopped from creating / adding to pages there and collectively enter proven working relationships. E.g. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/index.php/Inst...rom_Official_Repositories Gives a know how on Fedora and I'm sure I've seen a BOINC on Debian wiki.

It depends on which SuSe distribution you are using as to which GLIBC version you get. The SuSe distributions and GLIBC packages are as follows:
----------------------------------------SuSe Rel GLIBC Rel 10.3 - - 2.6.1 10.2 - - 2.5 10.1 - - 2.4 10.0 - - 2.3.5 9.3 - - 2.3.4 9.2 - - 2.3.3 9.1 - - 2.3.3 9.0 - - 2.3.2 [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at May 2, 2008 3:21:54 PM] |

Do you mind using ldd to check the dependencies?
