Hi, there Chups.
Welcome aboard - well, almost that is. ;) Got to admire your persistence and patience. Just wanted to make certain that you've found a solution to your installation problem. Let us know how it's going. If not, we can figure out a way to make sure you get up and running. |

Chups,
Do you have a ud_126863_0.dir folder in your Program Files/WorldCommunityGrid folder? Also, are the files you listed the only ones there? Or just the ones that appear to be important? Just checking things out... I admire your persistence. Nels |

The Rosetta program and/or agent appear to be crashing for some reason on your machine. Here are some things, which often cause this problem, I would check if you have not already:
1. Use Task Manager to make sure there isn't some other runaway program on your system using up most of your virtual memory allocation. There needs to be a little over 200MB of virtual memory left to run the agent and Rosetta. 2. Do an up-to-date virus scan. Viruses will often go in and corrupt the executables of running programs in an attempt to inflict them. This would cause the agent to crash, throw away its files and download everything anew. 3. The Windows DEP setting in Windows XP SP2, and some firewall/virus/spy products attempt to keep executables running in various ways. If you have any of these installed, try explicitly permitting the UD.exe, WCGrid_Rosetta.exe, and ud_nnnnn.exe (where nnnnn is a bunch of digits) programs to run in these products and let these programs make outgoing connections to server.worldcommunitygrid.org via port 443. 4. Finally, there might be some sort of hardware problem. Try running a memory tester and cpu tester such as: Hot CPU tester version 4.2.2: http://7byte.com/index.php?page=download Memtest86: http://www.memtest86.com/ or any number of others you should be able to find with an Internet search. If you still cannot get it to work after the above, or if you have questions about doing the above steps, please contact support at WorldCommunityGrid.org and we will try to work through the problem on your machine in more detail. |

Hi Chups and welcome to the Forums.
I had your exact same problem when I joined the WCG. I was using an Athlon 2500+ based computer with 512 megs of memory. What I found was that although my ram was passing all diagnostic tests when running an intensive application like rossetta a very obsure bug between the stick of memory and the motherboard surfaced to screw up the agent. The motherboard was an ASUS A7V8X-X and the memory stick DRAM Master PC2700 DDR333. I changed the memory stick to one more compatabile with the motherboard and everything worked fine. I still took it off the WCG in favor of a P5 3.4 ghz processor. I just felt this app deserved a more powerful system. This all happened in the early days of WCG last november. So I got no help off the forums. So be thankful you are at least having your hand held. The offending computer is now running simpler less intense apps using the BOINC based dc projects. Hope this helps I understand the frustration! |

Chups,
You have gone through the install processs far enough to register successfully on the server. Now you need to get up and running on your own computer. You need to get an attachment emailed to you with the World Community Grid files all zipped up to replace your current files in the WorldCommunityGrid directory and see if they work once you start running UD.exe. I still do not understand how a .exe file got renamed gz.sig. Something had to do that. What happened when you renamed it .exe? What sort of help are you getting from Tech Support via 'Contact Us'? We would like to help, but we do not know what is being done. Perhaps if you posted copies of your emails from Tech Support here, we could make additional suggestions. Lawrence |

Chups (and Lawrence),
I did a lookup of file extensions in Wikipedia and came up with the following: .gz Compressed file archive created by GZIP (GNU zip) .sig Current program settings (Signature) PrintShop Sign file Signature file (PopMail) Is it possible that you installing the grid software from a set of zipped files e-mailed from a friend or, as it should be, downloaded from the World Community Grid web site? Like Lawrence, I am very suspicious of the file extension gz.sig Regards, |
