When I checked my agent, the Overall Rating had decreased. When I checked further it showed that the rating of my processor had fallen. That in and of itself is irrelevant. What concerns me is the reason for this.
I had assumed that the processor rating was based upon a static comparison. Again, no worries. BUT, if this is a dynamic rating (although I don't see how) then it may reflect something amiss with my processor. Naturally, the only thing that is different is that I have been running 24/7 for the last couple of days since joining the WCG. Would anyone care to offer me some reassurances? |

The processor rating is measured by a quick test running in the background at the same (lowest) priority that the Agent runs. It seems to run with each work unit. Anything running in the foreground will lower it. It is, after all, an attempt to measure how much computer processing power is available for the Grid Agent to use. Over time, it should average out.

To see what your machine should rate (in terms of processor ratings when the WCG is running without to much else) see processor scores in my sig line

Suggest before uploading data & downloading a new work unit:
(1) Check progress in Agent (2) When near end (e.g. 90% complete) exit the Agent & close all applications (3) Restart the Agent & let it transmit data & download new work unit (e.g by running overnight) (4) Restart other applications once new work unit has started |

Hi again YogiY --
I was doing just what you are suggesting (and probably still do at times), but you will find that things seem to even out over time. The important thing to remember, though, is that our main objective is the contribution of the thousands of hours of processing that we all making. Points are there as a fun way of measuring that contribution. They do make for some fun competition between members and teams, but in the end, we and mankind will benefit from the crunching our systems are doing, not the points we achieve. Regards, |
