Stop AutoLoad on StartUp

How do I keep the agent from automatically self-starting every time I turn on my computer? I don't want it to start automatically each time. I want to start it manually when I want it to run. I have a Windows XP system. Thanks.

Re: Stop AutoLoad on StartUp

Take BOINCmgr out of the windows startup area, which contains those types of programs to automatically start after a reboot.

Mine run all of the time anyway. Is there a different concern about them?

Re: Stop AutoLoad on StartUp

There is a shortcut to BOINC Manager in your Windows Startup folder. Delete that link and BOINC won't auto-start anymore. This is for Single User and Shared User installs only, the service install starts before Windows Login.

(Start->Programs->Startup->right click BOINC Manager->delete)

Re: Stop AutoLoad on StartUp

Thank you. A follow-up question, please.

If I make this deletion from my Startup folder, how do I get it back again as it was when in the future I want to restore the program to load-every-time mode? Thanks for your help.

Re: Stop AutoLoad on StartUp

Copy the link from the normal Start menu folder back into the startup menu.

Re: Stop AutoLoad on StartUp

Hello WilhelmGGW,
Ouch! I almost added this comment yesterday, but decided that I would just be chattering, so I did not. Instead of deleting the icon from Startup, use 'Cut' then 'Paste' to your desktop to move the BOINC Manager shortcut for manual control at your decision. On my computer, this is a shortcut to C:\Program Files\BOINC\boincmgr.exe

Added: Then you can always reverse the process, as per Didactylos.
