Computation error Status

My computer just finished crunhing a FAAH unit faah3434_ZINC03954044_xMut_02320_01_0 and the status showing in BOINC says Computation error.

Can anyone tell me what may have gone wrong with this unit?

Re: Computation error Status

Once in awhile there can be some strange calculations. In that case, nearly everyone running that workunit will get errors.

Check my grid/results status to see the comparisons for that workunit. Did the other computer running it also get an error? We would like to know more about your computer device number and the workunit name so the techs can investigate farther.

The most common causes of your own errors are bad memory chips, mismatched memory sticks of a pair, sometimes different brands of memory or excess overclocking. Download memtest86+ from their home page (in a link at the bottom of the wikipedia page) Run from that and it will make a bootable floppy. After rebooting from the floppy, it will do a COMPLETE memory test. Go at least once around the cycle to do all tests.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memtest86%2B

Any memory test done from a resident software program will exclude areas for the OS and the program itself, and is an insufficient test.

I have a couple of computers here that are overclocked. If pushed too hard, workunits will error. Back off until the workunits run correctly.

Re: Computation error Status

Hello retsof

I check the other computers running the work unit they are still in progress so I don't know if they will return error yet or not.

As for my computer I don't have any mis-matched memory and I do not think it is over clocked.

My computer device number is D6C9L981 and as far as I can tell I think my computer is very stable in the 1600+ units it has computer I think this one is only the third error and one of the previous errors was due to my stopping a work unit that got stuck in a loop.

Here is the Workunit status, maybe the techs can find out what went wrong.

Workunit Status

Also When I click error on the result status page I get this:

Re: Computation error Status

Excess computer time would seem to indicate looping. A few other FAAH units have exhibited "stuck at x%" symptoms.

There is a new version of autodock coming soon. We will see whether it helps. In the meantime, I will spotlight your printout for the techs to view.

Thanks for the printout. You might watch the result from those other two guys on the same workunit to see whether they have the same problem.

Re: Computation error Status

hi dseto,

The job log is rather sparse with 0:00 run time reported. Do you recollect seeing it sitting in your client for a long time? Your stdoutdae.txt file in the BOINC data dir (program dir) would tell when it was started and when the computation error occurred. Assuming no other projects are attached to BOINC, the difference would indicate the run time.

cheers

Re: Computation error Status

I don't know what's happening, now I have 2 HPF2 units gone error on me as well.

With the same error maximum CPU time exceeded.

I am stopping crunching on both projects and will concentrate on DDD and HCC for now, so as not to waste anymore crunching time.

When the new version of autodock comes out maybe I will go back and try again.

Any idea when new autodock will be ready?

Re: Computation error Status

That's weird. The new autodock build addresses FAAH and DDDT. HPF2 looping, you say???

I've been pumping out DDD-T for months now with no errors that I can recall.

I will append that HPF2 concern, though.

While passing the concern I wondered what else you find that is running on that system and using a large % of CPU time. Could something else be interfering?

They don't like to give an "exact" date, but watch the beta testing announcements and area, and watch for a version change on autodock in your task list. I have a bunch of 5.15 in there now. If crunching DDD-T, it should show up. It shouldn't be too far away.
