My friend Victor

Some of you knew that my dear friend Victor haqs been fighting the good fight with leukemia, and lately a type of myeloma... I am somewhat unlearned about the biological aspects, on purpose... His eight year struggle on our plane of existence ended on the eigth of April. He was three months shy of his 49th B'day, and I will miss him. There was a wonderful service last night. My mom and I went, and saw many friends and folks whom I had not seen for years. We met in Jr high, and the depth of the years has me in awe. Ever feel time? I am right now... and I don't mind. I had grown distant with him, and most of my oldest friends through the years, and I don't grieve that, as much as I grieve those memories, those crazy, fun things. A week ago his wife called to say he was on his last legs... I wouldn't go see him. Fear kept me away. At four the next morning, I woke sudden, and that invisible strong hand was yanking me out of bed...I knew where I was going, but not the qwhy. I got to his house just an ambulance was pulling away... no lights or siren.I was sad, and went to the door. His wife answered, and was shocked to see me! I said that I simply had been told to get my ***** over there, by my higher power!! She told me he was alive, had collapsed in her study, thinking it was the bathroom, and had cried out to her. I realized that I had been sent to help her, for she was at her end with it. I went to the hospital with her, got to see him and talk to him, then spent about an hour with her, kneeling outside in the ambulance tarmac, talking. That was the last I saw saw him. She had a good place to take him that day, and he left surrounded by family. Sorry about the length of this, but I cannot think of a better place on this earth to talk about this than right here... I love all of you!!!

Re: My friend Victor

Thank you for sharing that, 7cures. That's what this place is for.

At least you got to see and talk to him one last time.

Re: My friend Victor

I just saw this today. My heart goes out to you on the loss of your friend.
I try and tell people when they ask why I do this that it is all about people. That our doing the research today will make for better lives for the people of tomorrow.
The word "people" is sometimes an abstract thing that doesn't get understood.
Only when it hit's close to home does everyone understand.

Re: My friend Victor

I thank you all greatly for these words. Just having someplace to write about it, since I am now notoriously lazy with pen and paper, but am quite able and willing to type makes this so much the easier to go through!!! smile
