Hi - I've recently moved from UD to BOINC, and as a result now do work from various different projects - which is cool!
However, the WCG work that I'm doing very rarely seems to be getting priotrity. I've had one piece of work at 99.8% complete (about 1 minute to go) for a couple of days, which I would have expected to complete - but in that time malaria.net has been running twice, climate change a few times and SETI a few times. I joined UD in the first place for the WCG projects - so I don't want those to suffer because of other projects. Is there a problem with the BOINC client? Or is there a way that I can "force" it to complete the WCG work? |

Congratulations to a new world of crunching.
----------------------------------------Well you paired up with a couple of aggressive projects, one having short deadlines, thus getting prevalence and the other.... well no opinion on them. And for CPDN, you better set their "resource share" back to e.g. 50 or 25 (they are not percentages) as they will in the end take 100% of a core to meet their deadline. Eventually your client will make the decisions, but running on default, 4 projects at 100 "Resource Share / Project Weight" mean that over a longer period they are to average 25% of the available run time. WCG will get it's turn certainly when the deadline gets nearer. ttyl

Great - thanks, let's see if that works!
And that now helps me understand the deadlines as well - so BOINC is prioritising workload based on the deadlines that are set by each piece of work? |

No, it's on first place a FIFO (First In First Out), but if BOINC computes it's at risk of missing any deadline, it switches to EDF (Earliest Deadline First). There is a complicated debt systems, so e.g. Malaria tends to run into it's maximum allowed debt before it gets cut off and no work will be fetched from them for a while.... just hands off and let it run.
