WCG Boinc v.6.1 support

I know I shouldn't use an alpha version of the client, but version 6.1.8 is the only one that works correctly (without bugs) on my vista PCs.

However the new client isn't able to fetch work from WCG, other projects work fine:

Is there any way to avoid this? When will WCG update its certificates (and maybe the screensaver) to support boinc 6?

BOINC 5.10.45 installed to e.g. C:\BOINC\ or D:\BOINC\ works absolutely fine on Vista.

Your problem is probably yet another alpha without having the ca-bundle.crt file or that file being in the wrong place. For version 6 i think it has to be in the BOINC data dir.

So, in short: it doesn't work without bugs. Yes, it's a bug - nothing to do with World Community Grid (although we suffer being the only project affected by SSL bugs).

Try the latest alpha, or the stable version.

A new version (6.1.12) has been released today, it solves the problem!

Scribe, ALPHA is not offered by WCG. Here you only get the tried and tested and recommended for production. You can fetch it at the Berkeley site and you can enrol in the alpha/beta testing program: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/alpha/

Someone lost all his work, so be prepared for some fun time!!!!!!

AND, graphics (on Vista for sure) still do not work as you will have read that WCG is in the process to prepare BETA tests to get them fit for the future official release. The object is still testing the proper migration!

For those who like to run production with Alpha ~~or Beta~~ releases of BOINC, some new official messages from Berkeley appearing in the start up log each time you launch the client:

4/22/2008 7:43:56 PM||Pre-release Software: This version of BOINC is a development version and may not function properly.
4/22/2008 7:43:56 PM||This version is not supported through the normal support methods.
4/22/2008 7:43:56 PM||Report any problems to boinc_alpha@ssl.berkeley.edu.
4/22/2008 7:43:56 PM||If you did not intend to help test BOINC, download and install the latest non-development release.

We appreciate your momentary attention.

Only alpha versions will have this message. Beta releases won't, which I find disappointing.
