We will be starting a beta test for a update to FightAIDS@Home and DDDT shortly. Due to a change in the autodock code the results produced from this version will not match with the existing results. As a result, we are dropping the amount of work distributed for FightAIDS@Home and DDDT. This will mean that there are will be fewer workunits outstanding when update to the new versions following the beta test. That sounds like another way of saying that these projects (or phases) will be ending sooner.

Agree with you.
----------------------------------------Beta's mean that new releases are need to put in place, or at least improvements in actual projects and so on. For me remain the question iabout ways to set up my machines to get Beta WU's from WCG (in in any distinct mode than check the box in Beta testing page view...). Regards.
Cheers ! GIB@

They are scarcer than AC@H as only a few are sent out...enough to answer the question of whether they work or not.

Yep, during the last DDDT and HCC ones I only managed to get about 4 for each one over all my machines - when you consider they crunch around 300-400 units a day they are indeed rare!!
Anyone got any of these new ones yet or are we still waiting for the start? |

We had a pre Beta run non-public of about 60 units.... the big one going out soon....lurk lurk lurk. It does not say which platform, but suspect they will all get their coverage.
----------------------------------------What you surely got, but just to translate for others, whilst the last DDDT amendment from 5.10 to 5.15 was backward compatible, this time they are not so the old DDDT 5.15 and FAAH 5.42 need to come out before the new can go in whilst in trust that the BETA is successful, which also will further test the single distro algorithms announced earlier.... I understand from in-house comms that we're not so far away from that to happen too. As for the code change, I don't think them to be anything but just being a technical update (and the mentioned single distro preparation), so that they will work for both the 5.10 and 6.x releases. At some other project they had to do panic recompile to get their science to work again with 6.x alpha.... here it seemed just to get to the latest alpha (but strictly at your own peril.... no help from me) [edit: Cumulative Beta count stands now at 38,020 work units on the project page]

There is plenty of work for both projects.
As Sekerob noted - this is because the output data in the new version will have differences from the current version. Thus results returned between the two versions will not compare. BOINC does not currently have the ability to say 'run version X of the app with these workunits and run version Y of the app with these other workunits'. As a result, once we release the new version, any additional copies generated for the workunits will result in invalid comparison. In order to minimize this we are trying to reduce the number of outstanding workunits that will be in progress when we release the new application versions. |

Kevin - does this mean that you will only be sending these Beta units to machines that have no current DDDT and FA@H units pending so as not to cause this conflict?

Beta's come from a different feeder track and an app of their own. The production side would get messed up, for as explained, BOINC is not able to distinct them coming in if from version A or B. So, you will not have to clean out to do the beta's going into a separate pot.

Will this Autodock change fix the hung work unit problem with Linux and Mac?
