Re: Stand Alone Cruncher

Hello QB,

when you say create new directories and copy the Materials

Surprisingly, the files that need to be copied are very small, and the process is quite simple (!Once you know what you're doing!).

PROCESSES

Host Machine

The Host machine is the machine in which the Internet connection is live.
1. If you don't already have the Agent installed on the machine, install it and cancel the sign-up process.
2. Create new folders depending on how many machines you wish to use, for example: Machine1, Machine2 and Machine3.
3. Copy the files from the original installed directory to these folders.
4. Run up one Agent at a time (that's all that is allowed) and register each machine under new Device IDs.
5. Once the ID has been registered and the WUs downloaded, you are ready to copy the files to the Client machine, make sure you have the Agent completely closed.

What do you mean when you say "Run Up One Agent at a time" ?... the files are copied to the new folders that I created from the original folder (under the WorldCommunityGrid folder).
The original folder created by Worldcomgrid is UD_126863_0.dir... I created 2 new folders called Machine2 and machine3 under the worldcommunitygrid folder. I copied the files from UD_126863_0.dir to the new folders...
does the program only recognize what is in the default folder ? and does it mean I have to move files from the folders machine1 and machine2 to UD_126863_0.dir and back when I "Run up the agent"?

Re: Stand Alone Cruncher

I have never tried this sneakernet deal but presuming you used udmon to allocate the "slots" and then you parked wus in them, and then you copied the entire directory (including the agent to machine 2) then it would seem logical that you would have to put the wu in the "default" directory created on the original machine. If you copied everything...including udmon to machine 2 and then only had a wu in one slot, it would seem that you could leave the wus alone in those directories. and when it finishes, move it back to the matching slot on the original machine where that copy of udmon would find the completed workunit...fire it up and run the benchmark and send it in.

As I said, I have not used this...I depend on a network.... but the above seems logical to me.

As to gzappia... it would make sense to use udmon to install the various copies of the agent and WUs. and yes, if it still works the way I remember, each one of them will have to re-register and have a unique name.

Hope this makes sense to you guys...it just barely does to me. smile

Re: Stand Alone Cruncher

I installed Udmonitor and WCG on a USB disk (1.5GB). I can run it on any computer. So far it's the simplest way I found to run WCG on multiple computers (not at the same time because I have not started moving files around manually for now).
I am looking at how the files move from the slots to the working directory and back while the program runs... there are several files that get updated in some other folders; I have not determined what role they play (logs?, stats?) and if they they need to be moved also.

When I find an easy way to use the USB device to setup WCG on multiple computers and not screwup the files before sending the results back, thus not corrupting the users stats I'll post the solution.

cool Re: Stand Alone Cruncher

Thanks, gzappia. People have reported problems trying to do this. I think that a number of people will be interested in a detailed explanation of how to do this.
