What a welcome ... come back, contribute, lose all historical credit.

Geeze guys, not that it is the end of life, but this is the second time a project has taken my accumulated credit and flushed it on me. Kinda makes me wonder what is the point if this is allowed to happen...

At any rate while I took a 2 year hiatus from BOINC my account was sitting there with 35,764 boinc CS giving me position 14,810 ... I give you guys some work, and you reset my numbers ...

WIth my luck there is no hope, but, this stinks ... see:

http://boincstats.com/search/all_projects.php...2e70ed39f669d1ff2ede05be8

For a one day drop of 30K ...

If I take another sabatical, do I get to start over again?

Paul,
It's your right to use multiple identities and probably multiple email addresses too, but then it's up to you to manage the result. smile

In any case it is impossible to close/cancel a memberid or even a single device in the current WCG setup, therefore there is no chance that anything got lost.

Now if you tell us a little more precisely how you want to put your various pieces together we will tell you if it is possible or not.

See this page for details.

Cheers. Jean.

Well, at BOINCstats your name is Paul. D. BuckMeister and here FeistMeister, so bucking and feisting with the issue it's probable you created a new account or you changed the email address which generated a new CPID which is not rolling up yet at the stats sites. Make sure the email address is equal on all your WCG accounts, case and all and it should reappear in the next few days.

Edit: Ah, see Jean typed faster. 7 minutes 59 seconds for 2 answers. We're slowing down in hour response times laughing

Re: What a welcome ... come back, contribute, lose all historical credit.

Yeah, I just came to that stunning realization too ...

And so, yes, my bad ...

I did have an old e-mail with the WRONG account so ...

Sigh ...

I fixed it and now will be using the "correct" account and have cleaned up past e-mails, this is one case where saving history did not serve me well ...

My sincere appologies ...

I did not do that much work under the wrong account, so, I will drain my queues of the work started and re-attach ...

sigh ...

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble ...

That, I suppose is what I get for leaving for 2 years and then coming back and trying to resume BOINC life ... maybe I should have just stayed away ...

ah well ...

the worst news is that you can't blow away the bad account ... maybe change the log name and e-mail address so I can fat finger it?

Yes, that's how and I think those of a certain religion wear their wedding ring on.

You could also leave the correct email account and both will roll up. Done that before.

Re: What a welcome ... come back, contribute, lose all historical credit.

That was supposed to be CAN'T ...

Anyway, three computers drained and one to go (4 hours left to do on the WU) ...

Like I said, not that big of a deal ...

PAH deleted my account and I lost 171,000 CS ...

Even so, not the end of life, just a lost month of production and 300 points in world standing or something ...

I was only planning to do this long enough to break in my new Mac Pro so, not sure how long I will be doing any of this ... wife does not like high utility bills ...

You can set BOINC to only crunch when on and to even go in sleep mode after X minutes idle so the computer can power down.

AND.....Paul D. Buck

bucking and feisting

for bucking, meistering and feisting

Whichever one reaches 10 posts is the one you should go with for popularity, I should think.

wife does not like high utility bills ...
That is not a problem here. I also have a device on my wife's computer, and *I* pay the utility crunching bill as a direct charitable contribution to science.

Re: What a welcome ... come back, contribute, lose all historical credit.

I came back only to test stress my new computer and promptly screwed up at least here ...

Not sure how long I will run the test, especially since lurking about I can see that in the greater BOINC world nothing has changed.

The trouble for me is that she is the one that writes the checks that pay the bills; even though my retainer/retirement pay and disability pay are the biggest source of income flow we normally use.

Though for the the new computer we are going to tap the cash that had built up in the investment account in that I don't see much of interest to be investing in at the moment. Especially since with the drivers we have at the wheel do not seem to be inclined to do anything other than "stay the course" ... or double down on their bets.

With that in mind I have 6-8 months to build up cash again for post election to decide where to put it ... and in the mean time, should the market make a decision I will actually be building some cash up in the interim and for market index buys I have mutual funds that don't need larger sums to buy.

I do find it interesting though that one new computer and the others I had been using, all about 4 years old, are so productive. Especially in that I have been doing other things with all of them. Like on the new box, right now, I am doing a RAID drive verification that looks to be like it will take another 2-3 DAYS to complete (been running since the 25th and is only half way there. Not a big deal except that they docs says the drive will run slowly. Which is interesting in that I have not noticed anything change.

Still playing with the settings but at the moment it looks like I will not have to blow this current installation away and start fresh ... though I still may ...

=====

Lawrence,

Forgive me, but, I don't recall you ... but, thanks for the greeting ...

The trouble with autism is that you can't remember people or faces to save your life ... but I digress ...

I would say that it is great to be back, but, ...

None of the great nagging problems that existed since 2000 when I joined the BOINC beta have been corrected, some have gotten worse, and some are in a state I consider appalling ...

But what do I know ...

A poster on another board said that people like me with high scores just want to throw our weight around ...

Ah, Lawrence, not much of a reply ... maybe my depression is "leaking" out again ... convenient excuse that, maybe I should just go with that and quit writing ...
