I experienced a rather strange problem. Up to now three task from the hpf2 failed with the error message "exceeded disk limit: 95.45MB > 95.37MB". however i used the standard setting which should allow BIONC to use about 9GB of space (currently BIONC is using about 60MB and there is about 20GB of space left on that drive). I browsed the forum but cant still make head or tails out of it.
here's the log entry: 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.10.30 for windows_intelx86 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Libraries: libcurl/7.17.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Data directory: C:\Programme\BOINC 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3000+ [x86 Family 15 Model 79 Stepping 2] 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Processor features: fpu tsc pae nx sse sse2 3dnow mmx 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Professional Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00) 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Memory: 3.25 GB physical, 3.84 GB virtual 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Disk: 44.10 GB total, 21.75 GB free 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Local time is UTC +1 hours 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [World Community Grid] URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID: 534464; location: (none); project prefs: default 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 01-Jan-1970 01:00:01) 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Host location: none 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] General prefs: using your defaults 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when active to 1663.62MB 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 2495.43MB 23-Mar-2008 21:37:23 [---] Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB 23-Mar-2008 21:37:24 [World Community Grid] Restarting task lp974_00005_17 using hpf2 version 518 23-Mar-2008 22:22:31 [World Community Grid] Aborting task lp974_00005_17: exceeded disk limit: 95.45MB > 95.37MB 23-Mar-2008 22:22:37 [World Community Grid] Computation for task lp974_00005_17 finished |

In addition to the total disk limit, each work unit comes with a built-in limit to prevent it using up all your space if the work unit is faulty in some way.
If the work units should be using this much space, then the WCG techs will reissue the work unit with a higher limit. The other possibility is that the work unit only behaved in this way on your computer, and nobody else had the same problem. Check the Results Status page to see if that is the case. |

All settings look good. Sometimes the internal restriction of a work unit batch is too tight, but 95mb makes no sense as these units tend to grow to as much as 250mb. Can you check in the Result States page work unit detail and see if any other of the quorum were returned with error.
----------------------------------------ttyl PS, I finished a few today of lp938 and the next in cache are lp971 and lp986 so will find out if it's a series issue.

I checked the Result Status page and it seems that almost 100% of task completed by other users are valid. So it seems that the problem is on my side. how are the chances to write a program that does not work on only and exactly one pc? and can i use that luck for winning the lottery say 40times in row instead? :(
Today the fourth task from hpf2 ended the same way (error: exceeded disk limit). but right now a faah task is running. lets see if there will be the same problem... |

Well it's not a lottery thing... I've got 10000 jobs finished, so far with little issues.
----------------------------------------Please would you do 2 things: 1. Upgrade to 5.10.45. It has better message logging and event reporting. Find it on the WCG download page (link on www.worldcommunitygrid.org ) 2. Post us the content of the global_prefs.xml and global_prefs_override.xml Seen a few odd reports also elsewhere with incorrect disk space allocations to BOINC. No one else has come to the board with this strange one, so think it's an isolated case. The programs like HPF2 are actually very tolerant and run on all sorts of windows, linux and mac. If FAAH completes properly it will be more digging.

verquer, we have seen errors like this before. What happens is some other error is occurring, and it fills up the log file with errors until BOINC aborts the work unit with the "out of space" error - which masks the underlying error.
Can you check the file sizes in the slot directory? That may help determine the problem. |

Sorry, should have said that those 2 files (global_prefs.xml and global_prefs_override.xml) are on your disk in the BOINC program directory. If you can please post the content.
