I'm still getting the same messages on BOINC Manager and nothing else. They occur every twenty minutes or so, but the progress bar does increase, so I'm not sure that there's any problem now.

One potential cause of this problem is a computer clock that keeps poor time, coupled with an NTP time service that corrects it. BOINC sees time going backwards, and resets.
Do you use NTP? Configure it to correct the time incrementally. |

As far as I can tell, my computer keeps the correct time, and I can't find NTP on it. What sort of messages should I be getting, though?

As far as I can tell, my computer keeps the correct time, and I can't find NTP on it. What sort of messages should I be getting, though? Hello Raine Lawliet, Sorry, I'm a bit late. To find NTP, press System → Administration → Date and Time (and enter your password). From the tab in the middle you can choose: Stay synchronized with time server (NTP), or manual. If not already chosen you might use manual, and see how Boinc will react. I don't see a way to configure the NTP more precisely. Good luck, Path7. |

Thank you, but I've already synchronized the time. It's still possible that that could be the source of the problems, though. I occasionally see the time to completion field moving backward, though that's generally not uncommon, in my experience. Since I installed BOINC Manager five days ago, the progress bars have filled to 41% and 34% (keeping in mind that my computer hasn't been running the entire time). It all looks like it's in order, but when I click on the messages tab, I still see the 'zero status' messages. I simply don't know whether or not it should be telling me something else.

The dropping back from a higher to lower percent as 41 to 34 exactly at the point of Zero Status messages is almost definitely a time keeping problem. BOINC hates it. Most often it happens during the restart of a computer, so please start with switching off the automatic time sync option in the date/time control panel, so we can eliminate that possibility. Before the computer shut-down denote the OS time and set your watch and see on start up if there is a difference. Also make sure the time in the BIOS is correct (the hardware clock).

The dropping back from a higher to lower percent as 41 to 34 exactly at the point of Zero Status messages is almost definitely a time keeping problem. That wasn't what I meant. There are two progress bars; one was at 41% last night and the other was at 34%. Right now, they're 42% and 36%. (I was away for most of the day and didn't have my computer turned on.) Still, I do occasionally notice the progress dropping a bit, so I'll see if it's a problem with the time. I can't disable automatic time sync, though, because that option doesn't seem to exist. |

okay, see reply from Didactylos. Any all (newer) OS nowadays has some Internet Time sync function: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/printpost?post=157786

I synchronized the time with another clock, and so far, they've stayed together. The progress does still increase, but every once in a while, I just get that zero status message. If I allow it to keep going, then I can only assume that the progress bars will fill, and when they do, will these errors be a problem?

Are you still on 5.10.21? If so at least go up to the recommended 5.10.45 which was tested for Ubuntu as the reference Linux distro. The messaging was also overhauled, so maybe something different will appear.
----------------------------------------Long as overall the percent keeps increasing, jobs should complete.... normally the zero status is benign.
