Just wanted to say that I'm having the same problem on two of my OS X machines. No error messages, I just get back to my computer to find that it's not open anymore.

I'm obscured. OS X 10.4.11 is reported in OP, yet the log speaks of MAC OS: Darwin 8.11.1. Is that the same thing? [edit: One INTEL and the other PowerPC processor based ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_(operating_system)] Mac OS is the whole operating system; Darwin is the Unix-based "core" of the operating system. So Darwin is part of the Mac OS, which runs on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs. By the way, I just discovered that for yesterday evening's crash, there is no useful info. in stderrgui.txt at all. The time of the crash (19:09:09) I took from stdoutdae.txt, which gives the usual "Exit requested by user" message. The console.log from that day shows a possible issue with the Java VM in a web browser, but no BOINC-related trouble. Now, I noticed you moved this thread out of the dddt forum... scared me for a moment there . I have not been fully convinced yet that it is merely a coincidence that this happened around the time the dddt work units got longer, but it's always possible that something funny is going on with the OS on my machine. I am curious what projects the other user(s) with the same trouble is/are running. |

Do you use the simple view, or the advanced view? You had the BOINC Manager window actually open when it crashed, yes?

I ordinarily do not run BOINC with the window closed completely; other than that, I do not recall which application was in the "foreground" or which view I was using during any of the crashes. What I do remember is that for the 03/15/2008 crash, I had been away from the computer for a while and would have expected the display to have fallen "asleep," but because of the crash, the whole computer had fallen "asleep" instead. I typically use the advanced view more often than the simple view, but switch back and forth between them quite often; when I am using the advanced view, it is usually the "accessible" rather than the "grid" view. The problem seems to occur near the end of a DDDT unit; looking at the Result Log for dddt0401o0873_ 100446_ 1-- (which is still Pending Validation, by the way): .... Finished Docking number 95»I believe the incident occurred roughly about here.« About to call graphics init Is the fact of me switching back and forth between the simple and advanced view perhaps contributing to the trouble? |

On a different subject entirely, I noticed that under Results Status, when I pull up the Results Log for the new longer Discovering Dengue Drugs – Together work units, the "best energy" does not get reset back to zero between each set of 100 dockings (I had thought that each set of 100 dockings is a different ligand); thus some sets of 100 dockings may have no "Updating Best Energy for WU." I assume this is by design, correct?

I mentioned the simple view because the crash seems to occur in the simple view code.
Perhaps you could try using the advanced view exclusively for a few weeks? Meanwhile, the BOINC developers have the report, and I don't think there is any additional information you can provide at this time. Yours is a "hard bug" - it can't be reproduced on demand, so it is difficult to track down and fix. So, it may take a while. |

BOINC have released 6.2 to a wider audience. WCG haven't adopted it yet, but you may want to try it and see if the new version has this bug.
