Yesterday, my computer received the following assignment: dddt0401k0657_ZINC00675469-0000_00. It was going to start as soon as one of the current jobs were done. And it had a short deadline.
However, before it could finish the current job, the new job was flagged as aborted by project. When the result was uploaded, the result status page showed Error for this assignment. My computer was the 4th one to return this result. Analyzing the list there, it turns out that one of the two valid results was returned after my computer got assigned the job. Yes that result was late, but when it got returned, I agree that my computer shouldn't waste time doing an unnecessary job - that is not the issue. My issue is why is this aborted job declared as an error? An error means something went wrong on my computer. Wouldn't a better status be "Job canceled?" or "Aborted?" JB |

Hi,
----------------------------------------Think we should maybe move this to the Suggestions/Feedback page. There are currently 9 statuses . The Server Side and Client Side Aborts are currently mopped under one carpet and concur that Server Aborted or Client Aborted would be nicer reading. cheers TKH, would you please move to Suggestion Feedback.

.............. Server Aborted or Client Aborted would be nicer reading. cheers TKH, would you please move to Suggestion Feedback. Hasn't been moved yet. It wouldn't just be nicer reading. That result status gives the volunteer no idea if the machine is misbehaving or not.Lot's of uptime can be lost diagnosing a problem that isn't. |

How about 'Withdrawn' for Server Aborted and 'Aborted' for Client Aborted.

There are a couple of rules, forget momentarily where knreed wrote them down, but a job, if known to be bad will/can be aborted by the server when already in progress. If the job is not bad, but merely redundant and already started, the signal is ignored. There is no way for the servers to know if its 1% or 99% complete, it being considered unfair to 'abort/cancel/withdraw' a job and not award the points. I would not mind, but others could.
----------------------------------------[edit: Funny, see below that me, my and myself collated the information into a Start Here forum FAQ.... the age of balding I suppose, just slowly ![]()
