Hi Folks,
Perhaps someone can help me. I'm confused by the Elapsed Time, Time Remaining & Percentage Complete indicated by the BOINC Manager. I noticed today that, whilst processing my current WU, the Elapsed Time was 12hr 12min whilst the Time Remaining was 12hr 11min - in other words, exactly 50% complete. However, the Percentage Complete indicated by the BOINC Manager was 42.0%. I also noted that, over a period of exactly 30mins, the Percentage Complete went from 39.9% to 41.0%. On this basis, the total time required to complete the remaining 58% of the WU would be approx. 26 hours, which does not tally with the Time Remaining figure shown above. BTW, my PC was idle throughout the entire period that I noted these figures. I am using BOINC version 5.10.30 with Standard Settings Device Profile. The reason I'm asking about this is because I'm struggling to meet deadlines and the above figures are therefore important to me. JPC |

Sekerob,
This is a separate topic in its own right. Members of the forum may not be concerned about the difficulties I'm having in meeting deadlines but they are likely to be interested in the accuracy of data presented in the BOINC Manager that is crucial to the satisfactory progress monitoring of their own projects. That is what I am asking about here. I simply want to understand how the figures are generated and why there appears to be some inconsistencies. I apologize in advance if you disagree with me and feel that I should have included it in the 'deadlines' thread. JPC |

Welcome to the world of non-determinism.
The only figure that isn't an estimate is the elapsed time (which is CPU time, not real world time). |
