Uploading problem?

Hi,

I have been running the UD agent on a bank of 4 machines for the past year, in which time I have contributed 280,000 points worth of work to the cause. Hooray!

However, I have now switched all the machines over to the BOINC client, and don't seem to be able to contribute any more. Boo.

The packets of work are all being downloaded with no problems, and they also seem to be uploading back again without reporting any errors. However, no points or work units have been registered on my statistics for the last two days, and no points are showing on the graphs on any of the BOINC clients either. The completed packets have, however, disappeared from the list in the Tasks section of BOINC.

The machines are installed in a University and connect via a http proxy cache. The address for this is

wwwcache.ex.ac.uk

The last block of message reporting showing downloads and uploads follows. There don't appear to be any error messages.

I am not a networking person, so any help or thoughts would be appreciated as, like others, I don't want to have to abandon the work after a year because of having to have changed clients.

Re: Uploading problem?

Additional!

I've had a good root around this morning in the results status etc and it seems that some of the data has now actually arrived. A couple are marked as Valid and a couple as Pending Validation.

However, the points have not been transferred across into my total. Is it the case that this can sometimes take a while (I know that the system only updates once or twice a day, but some of these were returned a couple of days ago).

Also, 3 of my 4 machines have completed work units but the system says that they are not due to be returned back to the grid for a fortnight. Any ideas why this would be?

Mark
(cursing UD as that was so much simpler!!)

Re: Uploading problem?

Hi Mark!
First I would like to make sure that you know about the following "Start Here" thread which contains much interesting information for members who have just migrated from UD to Boinc.
BOINC: Migration Questions moving from the Old WCG (UD) Agent

Regarding the deadline for returning the results this is usually well managed by Boinc and you just have to let it get used to your machine. After a week everything should be perfectly smooth, but during its learning curve it will already make sure that your machine has always enough work to do and that no deadline is missed.

What surprises new users of Boinc much is the completed tasks flagged as "Ready to report". The result files of these tasks have already been uploaded and are safe on the servers. However, since the reporting process itself adds some load to the database operations Boinc tries to match them with another operation which needs the use of the database, i.e. requesting new WUs to process. That's why you will often see completed tasks waiting until Boinc needs to fetch more work and reports them in the same call to the servers. Again, nothing to worry about.

Cheers. Jean.

Re: Uploading problem?

Jean,

Thanks for that. It looks like everything is on track to catch up with itself in time, from reading these pieces.

I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days to make sure all is well, but it looks promising.
