For last few days, all my FreeBSD machines stop loading WUs with the following error:
----------------------------------------11:26:15 World Community Grid [error] No app version for result: i686-pc-linux-gnu 542 11:26:15 World Community Grid [error] App version has unsupported platform i686-pc-linux-gnu 11:26:15 World Community Grid Message from server: Resent lost result faah3198_SulfathiazoleSO3H_MIN_xMut_md01180_02_1 Cleaning project directory and/or reattaching to the project does not help. Any hints? [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 7, 2008 7:43:27 AM] |

Hello dmarck,
----------------------------------------I am puzzled. This is not unusual for me.knreed has been updating the BOINC server software the last few days. I will drop him a note asking if this might be related to his upgrade. In the meantime, could you copy the start of your BOINC Messages tab, to include your computer ID? That will help knreed if he wants to ask the server about your recent sessions. Lawrence Added: Sekerob and I are bumping into each other. I will leave this to him. He is much better at Linux problems.[Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 6, 2008 10:00:43 AM] |

Hi,
----------------------------------------first can you please change the 'code' to 'quote' as your post rolls of my display. It's strange. The FreeBSD boxes have to identify themselves as Linux, so wonder if something happened to change that on your or the WCG side. It's possible as new BOINC server code was loaded on Tuesday March 4. let me make a call to knreed. Edit: Ah, duplicate effort.... should remember to hit F5 before starting a reply.

Better get those hashes away for the devices (most all run hidden, which is the default).... the CPID is in so many places that hiding it is useless (but advertising is not recommended either as it is a double key to your mail address).
----------------------------------------The Device ID number is actually somewhere in the top of the startup log of the stdoutdae.txt file or still in the message log if client has not been running for a long time, like: 3/4/2008 1:08:42 PM|WCG|URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID: 123456; location: work; project prefs: work

Can you the section of the request_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml file that contains the 'platform' and, if found, 'altplatform' sections?
thanks |

Probably the "sched_request_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml" file. The windows file does not have such an altplatform or alt_platform entry.

Ok - I've been doing some digging to figure out what is going on. Our update to the latest BOINC server code included support for the alt_platform mechanism that was added to the client and the server mid last year.
However, this means that some additional data is sent back to the client that broke the work around we used to automatically send work to the FreeBSD clients. Specifically a work unit is assigned to be run with a particular application version which is now identified by app name, version num and platform id. Previously it was only identified by app name and version num. The client when it looks at the workunit for you to run will check to see if the platform identifier matches the platforms the client knows that it can run. Although the workaround we had in place allows us to send the workunit and application version to you, this new check on the client stops the client from running the workunit with the application version. Anyway, there are two fixes for this: 1) Recompile the BOINC client so that it will specify an alt-platform of 'i686-pc-linux-gnu' 2) Create a cc_config.xml file which contains an element: <alt_platform>i686-pc-linux-gnu</alt_platform> (works with 5.10.26 and above. See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/ClientMessages for more information Let us know what you try and how it goes. thanks, Kevin |

client is now processing units. Thanks! |
