Crunched my first Beta units as per nelsoc's recent announcement :
We have begun a Beta test for a new version of the DDDT application. The app has been modified to allow us to combine multiple work units into a single longer running unit of work. The test will first process the old-style work units, though, to ensure backwards compatibility. When that has proven successful, we will begin a Beta test with the new-style work units. No problems at my end so far: ![]() ![]() |

I think the beta WU I have got is in the new category: it is still processing and it seems that it will take five times longer than the classic ones. I find it a big increase when I am thinking of all the smaller machines or occasional crunchers that I have advised to choose this project for minimizing deadlines problems...
----------------------------------------However the good news is that it seems to be taking checkpoints at about the same time interval as the smaller units. When the job is finished I will check the log and count the number of checkpoints that have been taken. If it's close to 500 my impression will be confirmed. |

Hi, I have a new Beta DDDT on Linux and it seems hung up, it's listed as "running" but CPU time isn't increasing, and one core is always sitting at near idle. What should I do ?

Well it's finished now. It has taken 4.89 hours while current DDD-T WUs take an average 50-60 minutes on the same machine.
----------------------------------------243 checkpoints have been recorded, which confirms my estimate of 500 possible ones. Because of the default write-to-disk interval of 60 seconds on this machine current DDD-T WUs are actually checkpointing an average 50 times, out a theoretical 100. Claimed credits are in a 5 to 1 ratio too. So, from my side, nothing wrong except something very strange but not really serious: after reaching 100 % and clearing the "to completion" field the percentage went on increasing pretty fast up to 105 or 106 % and then it came back to 100 % and only then the files started uploading?... Cheers. Jean. |

Hi, I have a new Beta DDDT on Linux and it seems hung up, it's listed as "running" but CPU time isn't increasing, and one core is always sitting at near idle. What should I do ? Has it started to compute before freezing, or are the CPU time and the percentage still showing 0? Just in case that would be one of the hung cases reported from time to time for other projects you could try to go to the "Projects" tab, select the WCG line and suspend the project for about one minute and then resume it. For the "classic" cases mentioned above that is usually sufficient to unfreeze. If not, when you think you have waited enough, simply abort the task. In both cases please come back here to tell us what you did and what you may have noticed. Thank you for testing. Jean. |

Hello,
I got one of the longer running DDDT Beta-WUs. It took about 5 times the usual time. Seems to have had no problems. It ran over night without closer watching. BETA_ dddt0401k0660_ 100224_ 1-- In Progress 02/27/2008 21:45:22 02/29/2008 21:45:22 0.00 0.0 / 0.0 BETA_ dddt0401k0660_ 100224_ 0-- Pending Validation 02/27/2008 21:09:47 02/28/2008 05:24:16 6.52 61.9 / 0.0 Now waiting for validation. One thing I noticed, but I think this was by intention: The WU showed only empty graphics. |

tluehr,
----------------------------------------Yes, the programmers tend to take the graphics out of BETA tests. It's easier for debugging if a problem arises, which graphics have caused too. Jean, Your comment on 5 : 1 credit ratio i do not follow (or maybe you intended this in anticipation of a grant question). The credits are really a function of seconds times benchmark or (Whet+Dhrystone) / 480 * hours crunched (+/- a few points variation).

I was only saying that the claimed credit was 5 times more than usual, as expected, i.e. that this too was OK.

Overnight another beta DDDT ran to 99.8% and hung as well. Suspending the project didn't seem to do anything. I've now aborted both. Just want to do the right thing to help the most ! |
