I'm curious as to whether having Boinc running 24/7 on my Macbook Pro could cause it to wear out significantly sooner. I mean, with the fans always running really loud because I have the CPU restrictions on Boinc set at 90% I started to wonder if this was negatively impacting the hardware.

Normally, laptops should have no trouble with World Community Grid, even running at 100%.
However, take a little more care than usual to ensure the laptop has good ventilation, and dial BOINC down if you are concerned about the temperature. A bit of caution doesn't hurt. If you are worried about the lifespan - don't. The component likely to fail first is the hard drive. Running your CPU at 100% shouldn't have a significant effect on lifespan. Given the nature of the BOINC throttle, you may prefer to run BOINC at 100% instead of 90% to avoid pulsing the fans. |

Thanks a lot. Switching to 100% sounds like a good idea so i'll do that now.
